My alternator went bad yesterday at Countyline. I don't want to replace it with another stock one, I want one that pushes out more power. Does anyone know a good shop that can rebuild an alternator to push out more power?

I've heard of people using ford tempo (no write up) and taurus alt.
I'll run a search...

People runs the s5 and s6 alt on their s4s but i dont want to rewire my alt for 10-20amps i'd rather just custom rebuild.

i have int really looked into it, but ive heard of ppl just getting smaller pullies, but im not sure out of what car

ProPower sells from 150amp to 225amp alts bolt on/ plug in but they're expensive. If anything get a chevy v8 alt (or someother big engine alternator with same teeth as your crank pulley) find at a junkyard for like 10bux or so. Make a bracket, buy a custom length belt, then wiring is easy.

the alt must be dinky if a tempo or taurus is an upgrade

The Taurus and Tempo can push out about 100-130Amps of power while my stock one pushes out 70...

I'm concerned because it's my DD. I need my car to run. I put in an E-fan 2 weeks ago because my clutch fan was going bad. $25 fan and $20 for the relays and wiring beats a $200 OEM fan clutch. The load from the fan was barely enough for my alternator to handle, especially during night driving. The s4 Rx-7 Alt is fairly weak and I would prefer an upgrade over stock so my car could handle better. I have heard of shops custom rebuilding alternators to push out more power for less than $100 which still beats the $150 new alternator. Getting a used alternator would be my next choice, but I have no guarantee how long it will last me...

seeing as how your alt was bad and not fully running at 100% and has now taken a shit just a rebuilding yours and bringing it up to spec would probaly solve your charging issues and would be your cheapest route to get your car running.

You're pretty much right, I would still like to upgrade, but I'll just have to see how it goes...

If anyone is curious... I put a Tempo/Escort Alt on there. I picked up the alt or 20 dollars, and was definitely the cheapest way out lol... just needed a couple hours of work to make it work, besides that, it was almost a direct fit the the 7...
