charging system problem

i got an s13 sr20 in my s14 chassis, im using a lawn and garden 300caa battery in my car due to space issues but now my alternator wont charge my battery. got the alternator check and its working like it was brand new. i tried my orignal battery that was in the car and samething battery voltage drops as i drive the car. a friend told me its the wiring im gonna bypass the the lower harness wiring and just run a battery cable wire from the alterrnator output directly to the battery, that has got to work. if the alternator is fine, and the battery is fine, than its gotta be the wiring, right? so can i run a cable directly or not? please help asap!!

also is the voltage reading on an safcII suppose tobe the same reading as the voltage at the battery? because mine is like 1.5 volts off like(safc reads 9 volts battery reads 10.5) is that normal?

I HATE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok here's the update-- i bought a new cable to replace the existing one going from the alternator to the battery, i just finished connecting it and i also cleaned up the ground contacts, i started the car and instead of the safc reading 10.5 volts it now reads 12.2! now i know thats better but does the safc read car body chassis which is 12 volts or does it read battery voltage while running which should be around 13-14 volts? well any help please?

I dont know why but once the alt trigger wire fuse blew on me and it was not charging the battery. Everything else was fine. Check all the fuses under the driver side kick panel. With out the trigger wire its not going to charge.

yeah i got all fuses the alternator is putting out 14 volts but my safc is showning voltage at 12volts, is this right?

is it charging the battery or will the battery voltage drop if you are running the car?

Are you running a dry cell battery? if not check water levels.

you still get inconsistent volt readings from the alt vs safc if you switch battery?
