coilovers

I know this is the eternal question, which one to get, but i think there are a lot of new opinions and new players to help me out, to set my mind...
-Megan Racing?
-Ksport?
-Stance GR+pro?
Spring rate 8f/6r? i want to still use the car as daily, so no too bumpy.
Also if any1 knows a place with good prices....
- Do i need RUCAs?
- advise to set them up (camber, Height)

I hope this thread as a manual for every1 that need coilovers, so please stay focus in the subject, thanx
(getting ready for the Ter-tech event.....Time to update my signature :D )

arent the ksport and megan coilovers like 800-850? then you jump to the gr+ pro which is 1395 retail. odd.

I have stance on my car. I was really considering silkroad coilovers. One advantage the silkroad coilovers RM-8 have over stance is their solid rear bottom mount, stance has a polyurethane bottom mount. Its not soft or flimsy at all like a rubber mount. Maybe they did this on purpose?

Recently i drove a s13 with tein something coilovers that had rubber upper mounts F n R and I could tell. this s13 and my car both have 8&6 springs, just with the solid upper mount on my coilovers i feel more connected with the pavement.

I dont remember if the rm-8's have actual clicks when you adjust the damper ( i belive they do), but my stance have good adjustment knobs, you feel it click engage into the setting. When you change the adjustment setting it really makes a difference. Both silkroad and stance you can feel the adjustment change.

I like the stance shock damping characteristics. Driving my car is not bouncy, the suspension dose a great job of absorbing the bumps. having an overdampned shock and the wheel and tire can not conform to the road for maximum traction, too soft and you will not have enough roll resistance and the car will transfer weight away from the inside tires and you will loose grip. Just driving my car around easy while im messing with some things tuning it gives me the feeling that the new coilovers have totally changed the driving limits of my car. It is very predictable, has lots of grip and super responsive.

I had agx and sportline springs on my car. Even with the solid upper mounts and increased spring rates, my car rides much nicer then before. This is attributed to the very nice damper that can absorb and contour to the road.

Umm, well I do not have rucas, but im running a little bit of camber in the rear to fit some 17x10 +18's. Rucas are not required for the installation. they just give you more adjustability when you go low low. I have some other stuff done along with the factory rear camber adjustment.

how to adjust them? well for spring preload, i run 1\4in preload in the front and 3\8ths in the rear. If you are running same sized tires front and rear you should start out with your preload equal front and rear. Once you get down to tuning your suspension and you know what you want the car to feel like you might want to either lower rear preload or increase front for steering response. New coilovers tell you to ride around on the softest setting for about 50 miles so they can break in. While you are driving around you will get a new feel of the car. after 50 miles, make some adjustments to either the front or the rear of the car. Observe how you liked those adjustments. If you really cant feel a difference go a little more. Something to try is to bring the front dampening up to 20% of your adjustment range, and bring your rear dampening up to 25-30 percent. Drive the car and see how you like that offset, if you like it but feels sluggish still, bump up the dampening front and rear equally until you get your desired response.

Then if you have a particular driving style or if you are used to driving the car with stock suspension, you should probably try to dial it in for a slight under steer on a simulated skid pad. Find someplace, im not going to suggest anything, but someplace that you can do 100-150 ft diameter circles. Controllably go as fast as the limits of the tires and see what happens, do both your front and rear wheels slide out at the same time? do you under or over steer? Bias your dampening more towards teh rear (stiffer) if you want more over steer, If you want more under steer bias dampening more towards the front.

Biasing your dampening settings: If you want more under steer, you can either soften the rear or stiffen the front. If you want more over steer you can stiffen rear or soften front. It depends on the tire grip and other crap, figure it out by driving.

Its really just how you drive your car, its not rocket science. If you have a good feeling of what your car felt like before on stock suspension then you should be able to feel the new setup and change it the way that you are comfortable. If you have problems, let someone who is experienced with suspension settings drive your car and make settings. Maybe you have your stuff wayyyy off, if you can not find a good setting for the front and the rear, you might want to let someone else set the dampening preload and tire pressures to their specification and try that.

Please do things in a systematic manner so you know wtf you did and how it is reacting while driving.

^^^^^wtf did i type all of this for ?

BC Racing from oversteer.com talk to kleen555...he got a set from that website.

BC racing are the same as MEGAN racing. Megan gets their coilovers from BC, they rebadge them and sell them as Megan in the US. DAMN Rick you just gave me a headache.

Stance is the rice version as KTS Beta 2's. They are exactly the same with the exception of the lower rear mounts to allow for more of a drop. Sean and I have done a comparison. My exhaust scrapes with my KTS's and I'm not even close to maxing out the drop. So IMO you should save money and get KTS's. Either way, win win. Just lay off the cheap shit since for a little more, you can get something NICE.
