Early entry drifts

So been practicing many types of drifts the last 3 years and my angles are getting better, im getting decent lines and closer to curbs if in a parking lot etc.....still having some issues w/ early entry drifts. Running DOHC w/ megan sports, kaaz 1.5 diff , nismo powerbrace, and aluminum subframe bushings. If Im in 3rd gear when initiating drifts I usually will rev match to second, faint, or clutch kick...ONly time I can get an early entry is if Im doin manji into the drift. Any suggestions to get some sick early entry angles that would make me jdm tyte yo :) thanks

To enter a drift early you need SPEED and timing. I was only touching on what I consider real early entry drifts before I sold my car so at times I was all over the place (enter too early or too late). Manji and downshifting is just not going to cut it - that's defeating the purpose anyway b/c you're just going too slow. Basically while you're on the straight, stay to the inside of the lane (in relation to the upcoming turn). As you approach the turn, veer to the outside with moderate aggressiveness. Once there, clutch kick HARD while cutting in HARD. Again, this takes TIMING. Adjust throttle and counter. The rule of thumb I made was that I was trying to get my car to full lock at the same point where all the black marks were from everybody else's entries. After that you can correct with throttle and/or e-brake. I would not recommend you try this out on the streets.

Here's a good vid of what I mean (although he wasn't on the throttle enough after the initiation and screwed up his line).

Oh and my instructions are for sub-90mph entries. After that, ebrake entry is probably your best bet. I never went that fast though so I couldn't tell you haha.

do what he says, e brake kills speed.... clutch kick entry = better for early entry....

seriously I think that video with your advice was prob as good i as answer as I coulda recieved. Thanks man....come in hot in 3rd, faint then clutch kick, as im enterring apex id prob need to downshift and throttle out the turn in second for lack of hp.

the trick is knowing when the weight of the car shift towards the corner you are going to hit, a flick of the steering wheel and as soon as you feel that weight, boom clutch kick and from there on steering and throttle input, based on the corner you can either down shift or just rock out on 3rd.....

If you're underpowered, you might want to clutch kick before the feint and clutch kick again with the transition because if you're light on power, you'll get shallow angle with with the first clutch kick. The 2nd clutch kick will give you that deeeep angle you need to slow you down for the turn (assuming you're entering fast enough).

At the Triangle Dan taught me to as much speed as I could and Pull the E-Brake. Then try to hold straight while holding the e-brake. After I learn to keep the car going in a straight ahead direction I would do the same but at the apex of the turn I would cut the wheel a little more to enter the turn ebrake down and throttle control through the turn. But that was in the Silvia with plenty of Power. For Bob(the white/Pink sileighty I had) When I released the ebrake if I lost RPM a clutch kick would cure the lack of power.

Since you don't have enough power go faster and use your e-brake and while holdeing e-brake down shift to second and get ready for the folowing turn.... also manji entrys do not count as an early entry in anyones book it mite look cool but it can cost you more than you think.... also 3 years and you still have a twin cam... come on upgrade I'm sure you feel the need for more....

Also ebrakeing kills speed so be conserivitave.... like sorry to say but I do agree with tonymac

Ive got a spot or two where I may be able to practice some of these concepts. My first 2 years I was all ebrake, this past year Ive been all about other techniques, especially braking drift. Ill have to try em all and just see whats the most responsive for my setup. Theres tooo many of ya drifing down here..I can barely even find drivin buddies in the 904 lol
cool cool, yea ive been in for 3 yrs and only have a dohc lol....went from a sohc, to now i have a doch, and next up ka-t..I have bad party habits and surf and skate on top of that so all my money doesnt goto my car.

i thought s-chasis were bad for braking drifts because of understeer problems (ebrake fix) if your not getting understeer I dont see the problem

If you're using ebrake, you're not doing a braking drift.

WORD!

I've yet to see many people down here Corner Balance their cars to achieve proper springs rates and balance to get a nuteral balance.

where are you from again? Why dont you attend some of our events? and no breaking drift is not e-brake drift....

i wasnt saying braking drift was e-brake drift... I was saying I didnt see the problem w/ braking drifts in a S chasis car if you werent getting understeer. I was also saying if you have problems w/ understeer an ebrake could remedy the situation.
types of drift
dynamic
faint
shift lock
braking
e-brake

Im from Jacksonville Florida which is why ya havent seen me down at any of those events. Not yet at least. Hell if I was down here we'd already have played beerpong ;)
