ok so i was driving my sentra this morning and noticed in 2nd and 3rd gear rite around 1750 rpm my car made like a grinding noise, like metal touching or something, it was only at 1750 and i could not hear it in first gear or in nuetral, i didnt try 4th or 5th but anyway b4 1750 rpm it wont make the noise and after 1750rpm it wont make the noise, its only at 1750...... any ideas on what it could be?? its a nissan sentra 2004 base model with 115,xxx km

:'( I is so scared!!! i have searched on other forums about ppl having the same problem but everyone says it could be something lose in the heatshield, like if its not bolted down properly but heres the thing, if its the heat shield, wouldnt it make the noise, in nuetral too? also someone else on a scion forum said his problem was in vaccum leak in his throttle body after he got new brakes (which makes no sense at all! but he said he went to the dealership and thats what they fixed and he never heard the noise again)? could it be brakes??

could it be a heat shield yes metal only vibrates at certain frequencies and 1750 rpms seems to do it. I still think its a throwout bearing or a syncro

ok update is that it happens in every gear now including first, doesnt happen in neutral tho and i think its getting worse!!!!! if it was heat shield y wouldnt it happen if the car wwas un neutral at 1750?

there is a different load on the car in neutral which could produce a slightly different frequency. only thing i could thing of its its not something in the tranny

called my dads mechanic and he said the same thing that sas said, he said its prob the throwout bearing :(

so i figured out the problem and thought i would update this, so it was my exhaust canister or muffler or whatever its called. the thing was all rotten on the inside, and i guess at certain frequencies it would make this noise, because all of the stuff inside was all broken and wiggling and stuff. anyway to test this out i just put the car up on jacks put the car in gear while still holding down my clutch so the wheels wont move, and revved it till it made the noise while someone else traced down where the sound was coming from.... just gotta go to mufflers for less and get a new piece welded on its like 80 bux... just in case anybody ever has this problem on their 240 or anything now u know a possibility....
