Yesterday i got a cheap new head-unit. I had a kenwood in there with ipod controller but the face died (controls worked, display didn't). So i got the new harness wired into the jumper harness that plugs into the Factory one, but the radio lights would blink a few times and go off, so i started playing with/jiggling the Antenna wire as it acts as a ground as well if i'm not mistaken (i remember the FIRST radio wouldn't work untill that was plugged in).
Well the person before me made a mess of the antenna wire and when playing with it, i got the NEW radio to light up but wouldn't stay on unless i held it in a certain position, so i took the electrical tape that was wrapped around the wire, and as soon as that was off, the Antenna wire fell apart. This is the section that i was left with that came off. Question is, how do i re-attach it to the wire thats inside the car? Do i just connect the inner wire(has a plastic tube/cover over it) and then try to get the shielding wire back around it? (i'm assuming it's shielding for the antenna signal). I would appreciate any help as i have no music in my car as of yesterday!!! The wire with the METAL Connector at the end was never plugged into anything, just the ripped wire was very poorly attached to the rest of the wire running under the dash and to the antenna i believe.
thanks,
-Robert
[edit]-The antenna wasn't needed to make it work, but with it, radio is crystal clear. Problem was the radio harness didn't have an Orange wire, the jumper and factory did for illumination i believe, as soon as i put that onto the red 12v wire and it worked.
