This is for my brother, he registered but didnt get the confirmation email yet so I am posting it for him. He turns 17 in January, and his parents are finally letting him get a car. Of course it has to be RWD, and I think it should be a J30, but he kinda wants a Bimmer.

I think the J30 would be really unique, and easy to do because most S14 parts will work on it.

Don't tempt me Erick..... lol I have enough projects..... the J30 is kinda fuky looking, but Ive never seen anyone drifting one, and the small flare on the arches would look awesome with a nice roll job and slammed with some 18x9 fronts and 18x10 rears. Factory wing and a WALD kit..... yummm

Oh, plus the 5speed swap is easy, or better yet.... in Japan they came with VH41 as an option.... so a VH45 would be a nice drop-in.

if you do some research (i have) i have seen some really good looking fendered pulled j30 that look mean as shit, and with the vg30dett swaps in them, they can be mean as hell. i almost bought one a while back but it had to many problems so i backed out of it. but its a very nice car. parts like you said easy cause of nissans small parts bins that they use. i think the e36 might just be to much car for a young person, they are just a little much to have to get repairs i think for someone that young. i vote j30

Hrmm, aftermarket will be cheaper for the J30 but parts counter prices for the E36 are actually cheaper than most Japanese cars. (check realoem.com if you have trouble believing that) Especially if you are a BMWCCA member..... it' like 30% off on a lot of parts...

J30 way to hard to do. ASk Funk from Tampa. They attempted it at one of the speed shops. Got 30% in then abandoned the project due to fabrication being so extensive it just wasn't worth it.

If he wants a BMW, let him have a BMW.

He doesnt really know what he wants, he is open to suggestions. I called him lastnight and he was talking about getting a Mustang for like $7500. I told him he was crazy. Then he mentioned he thought a BMW would be cool. He doesn't really know what's out there yet though. I think to him RWD means BMW, 240SX and American sportscars..... I mentioned spending a lot less money on something and then doing some mods

Honestly an E36 would be good because I have a ton of experience with them and we could switch from car to car. I also have lots of spares for the E36....

I guess I've always been intrigued by the J30 and it's one of the few cars that would still be unique in the drifting world, rephrase: one of the few PRACTICAL cars that would still be unique....

The biggest strike against it though is the automatic tranny.....

I say let him make his own decision. If he regrets it then he'll have learned a big part of growing up.

im thinkin the E36 so i dont have to mess with the transmission. :bigthumbu
