knocking sound

i have a SOHC and just recently i have started hearing a knocking noise. it sounds like its coming from the intake manifold or somewhere around there. but u cant hear it at idle, only when u rev the engine up. what can the problem be?

how can i be for sure that its the timing chain?

open the valve cover and check it, see it is lose. it could also be a bearing. or rod knock. idk see what other members tell you.

Sounds like the Timing Chain Tensioner or Rod Knock. Goto Discount and Buy a Mechanics Stethoscope Example

Try it on different parts of the motor and find where you hear it the loudest. It you hear it ral loud up front it is likely the chain.
