Lifters? Timing Chain? Noise!!

Halp, changed the oil hoping it would all go away, but the noise is still there.

take the valve cover off asap and inspect the chain and lifters, to me it sounds like ur chain/guide is fubared

lol, lets keep the single-cam bashing to a minimum. Trying to not have too much down time and having expenses on the low as well... Going to rip that valve cover off now.

Stuck hydro lifter or broken guid or bad oil psi all of these can cause that type of music

Last pic is of 2 plastic-like pieces I found in there... Leaving to work now, but chain looked fine, and I looked down into the cover and the guides were there as well.. Maybe seized lifters? [Not enough time to work on it atm..]

Cranked the engine with the valve cover off... and its the left guide that is making the racket--it would explain the pieces of plastic as well. I should *probably* replace all of that stuff, eh? However, my final questions are:

1. How long can I run it like this? and if I do..
2. Will I pass tech on Saturday with this?
3. Would I have to tow my ass home if I do run it on saturday? lol... :ugh: [hate downtime/not driving/had fun last event]

Lets put it like this left guide is the tensioner if theres no tension you can possibly jump teeth or break the chain throwing the head out of time with the block causing kapoodiiii dont slide it, if you have to, drive it but have AAA # at hand

Yeh its pretty dangerous and little mishap and the chain goes off and there goes your timing and it can fuck up the motor. and thats a mission to change u have to take off the whole front distribution.

plastic came off the chain guide and chain is rubbing metal to metal is what is sounds like to me.

buy the dual cam take ur car to the skidpad and destroy that sohc!! trust me it is very fun to blow up kas, u would be suprised how long they last, shit it may not even blow since sohc are baller
