Thinking about paint my s13 this color..

I am thinking with the weather down here it may be a bitch to keep up with. Are they cheap jobs to do? How do you care/clean for a car with these types of finishes?

i painted flynfinns rx7
its a little more glossy than that one but what do you think?

and it seems to never get dirty
all you have to do is was it and it looks fine

They look like a bad paint job when done wrong.

try hot rod flatz for some options - flat black 240's are very common.

doesn't look too bad Adam...

a lil glossier then what i'd like

I think Matte black would make my wheels pop out real nice

alsa makes a two stage matte paint thats about $180 for the paint and matte clear

It will last alot longer then a single stage or spray paint matte black but itsnt easy to spray

its also easier to care for and wont chip off

^^ i highly doubt they are going to have someone wrap a ferrari in cheap vinyl. They more than likely got someone to do it right and paid a nice bit to do it.

Im gonna tell you the negs about flat black.

It stains easily especially in the sun. Bird shit, grease stains etc will stain the finish and it will not come off unless you sand and repaint.

If you do a matte clear you avoid the stain issue, however if you wipe it down to hard ie wash the car aggresively it will bring shine out in the clear and theres no way to flatten it again. Another thing to remember is once its painted thats it, you cant modify it. What this means is if you get a run or any dirt or debris in the paint while your painting, youd better be happy with it because there is no wetsanding and polishing on this type of paint job. The way it comes out of the gun is the way it stays.

Hope this helps

the real MAtte black is make by BASF cost around 450-500 paint kit. thats what exotic cars use.

So turns out this is a costly job. If you want it perfect and to last it may cost alot...

ive actually never had any of these problems..
i had a 240 and a truck that were exactly like the rx7 up there..
i thought it looked cool for a while

but im kind of over the flat black look

What you can do is put a matte clear coat finish on the black matte after you lay the paint down.

Yes, as i posted but if you rub it to hard even by washing it, the matte clear becomes glossy. I experimented with this alot when i was painting my car before i decided on gloss black.
