I'm not positive on Nissan's, but I know on Honda's there should be two notches in the cam gears.

The number 1 piston should be top dead center, and the two cam gear notches should be facing each other as close as possible.

Thats pretty much the universal rule for cam timing. But I would get FSM or ask around for some help.

yea i kno thats why i posted this, to ask around for help. w/e i thought i had it all figured out and i put the motor back together. it doesn't start. woopty fuking doo. i feel like throwing the car in a canal. if anyone knows of a comon problem that happens after changing the head gasket on the car, or if anyone can think of something i did wrong, help me out and post it plz

Hey I hope I didn't come off wrong I was just giving my advice but the best way is to get actual info in front of you, rather than internet talk that's why I didn't elaborate. Don't give up bro engine mechanics are always a pain in the it's trial and error that you learn from.

crist, i answerd this question with a novel in the last forum, a little search if the archives were avalible, this would have been a quick answer for our friend here.

turn the motor over by hand and check the compression firing order to properly veryify that you cams are properly aligned.
