No RPM's??

Hey everyone i got another problem... i finally ran the sr the other day on the highway.. when i got off the highway the car turned off and wouldnt turn on.. i figured out the black clip on the back of the engine that grounds to the chassis had melted.. well anyways after all was back together the rpms and the engine temp stopped working.. the engine temp works again ( just started working on its own) but the rpms arent showing on my gauges or on the apexi boost controller which is hard wired to the ecu... any suggestions..

also if i put a meter to read the output coming out of the signal for the tach am i gonna get a resistance reading or a voltage reading??

Check all the fuses in your car. Well more specifically the "meter" or "metering" fuse inside the drivers kick panel. This is tied into the alternator trigger circuit which allows the alternator to charge the battery, along with supplying power to the temp and tachometer circuit.

all fuses checked out okay.. im gonna try looking for that specific wire to see if its grounded somewhere

you checked both sides with a test light for power while key is on? and under the hood ?

under the hood there is a fuse box, check the visable larger fuses (dont know technical term) for broken filiment and then check power to both sides of the fuses under the hood and at the drivers side kick panel. I suggest you double check as a very possible quick fix.

Check your crank and cam angle sensors. Might be toast.

From what i read in the origional post it seems as if the car turned off then he was able to continue driving the car but with out temp or rpm gauges functioning. If the cas was toast it wouldnt have started again.

yea i checkd both but it was at night so im gonna go through it again just in case.. thanks for the help

yea the car runs fine .. just not reading rpms.. temp works now, just started working on its own ?!?!

yea runs fine... just no rpms shown on my dashboard or at my boost controller, im gonna check the wire going to the controller as well just in case, but i doubt its that

nah its not the rpm wire on the bc, You lost signal to your cluster and the bc, so it has to be the source of where both of those things get their signal from. Check your fuses which make the connection from the source and your displays(cluster and bc). Go out side and check your fuses right now with a flash light and test light. The purpose of checking power to both sides of the fuse is to see if you have an open circuit, and some other stuff. Visual inspection if broken fuses is if you dont have a test light avalible at the time, but every fuse should be rechecked with a test light .

make sure the test light works before you go and start checking things.

ill check tomorow, im kind of boxed in by my dads antique cars.. i drive a company car to work anyways my 240 is my weekend driver.. but thanks alot for the help, highly appreciated

there are a bunch of wires that connect to random shit under the dash that come from the ecu, check to make sure nothing came loose.. I had a problem not getting RPM and one of my connectors under the dash that sends the signal came loose.

im gonna have to check that cuz i checked the fuses and they checked out fine, voltage on both sides
