anyone know anything about the qaulity of it or if its even strong enough for track use.

Honestly I would stay away from it...
I mean an OBX header...fine. Simple part.
But a complicated mechanical part like an LSD takes R&D to develope and manufacture.
SO it would be better to go with a company like KAAZ or Cusco that has been making them for years and also have been used in many racing applications.
They have a great reputation.

This is strictly my opinion.

Before I go with a cheap OBX LSD I rather weld my shit up.

Good luck homie

yea i have a welded in right now but i hate how shitty it is for daily driving. i was just searching around on diffs and i came acrossed that one for cheap so i was just wondering how well they worked

Anything OBX is completely bottom of the barrel and should not be used for anything except paper weights. I ran a shop for 2.5 years and after 6mo I refused to sell that line, it's worthless.

Helical is not suited for drifting. Helical LSD's are geared, meaning, instead of having clutch plates they have gears in them. Helicals are great for grip driving because their characteristics can be "tuned" somewhat (Helicals work in %'s of static and dynamic lock, it's weird, I have no idea). But because they're geared they don't like the shock loading that occurs in drifting (called initiation) they also don't like high HP; because they're geared there's no "give" like a clutch plate. So once a helical reaches it's breaking point, they basically grenade, meaning time for a whole new LSD.

Yes S15's came w/a helical, still doesn't make them good for drifting, don't believe the hype.

Bottom line- spend money, or stay welded, going half-assed will only leave you stranded at the track. ;)

^^ true

everything I've ever read about the OBX LSD since shortly after it came out how ever many years ago says its garbage.

The only thing OBX has that is good is the header for the AE86, simply because it is exactly the same as the TRD 4-1 header, except it's not ceramic coated. The same company makes the header for TRD and OBX. But since we are not talking about 86 headers, OBX = gay.

OBX has been working on making a good rep but still, I rather weld or 2way, daily 2 way is not as bad as people say, I enjoy my clunk clunk clunk wen I corner slow... it pays off later wen I slide the corner.

i loved dailying with my 2way in my supra it was dope then when i upgraded to the kazz 2way it got even better shit locked perfect everytime. for my coupe im gonna get another kazz cause they are not only great diffs but a great company that honors there warranty even when it was my fault i broke it. LMAO
