Hey guys, i got a blacktop s14 sr20det.. im rebuilding it.. i went to get a quote from a machine shop to bore out the sleeves for the pistons (86.5mm) and the guy said that he needs some type of special machine to do that.. that hes just gonna have to resleeve it... is this tru or is he fuking with me.. overall he gave me a price of 1300 to resleeve. port and polish the head and change valve springs.. is that any good????

no. you need to bore the sleeves to spec. unless your running like a 89-91mm piston i dont think your gonna need sleeves. i;m looking to do the same thing on the dead redtop i have now. if your gonna run a strocker then sleeves would be manditory, also if your planning on boosting like 30+psi

Bro I'm in the same boat as you guys. I'm going 86.5 mm too and you will not need sleeves. My buddy is taking my block to a mchine shop to rebore the cylinders and I think he only charges like $80-$100. Not sure if that is just my friends cost or if that is standard. I will find out what's up and let you know if you want.

according to a few sources ANYTHING over 86.5MM (.5mm over stock) must be resleeved ((or its strongly reccommended))

Edit: Thnx TonyMac
