well so as some of you know, the new e30 is a transition into roadracing. I didnt go 5-lug (huge brakes) 'cuase i was rich you know
In any event, i had to sign up for this event becuase i couln't resist the $250 entry fee for two days WTIH an instructor for a total of 10x 20minute sessions of that wonderful 2.02mi circuit at about 1:30 per lap that's over 100miles of intense driving (more if you do the math but some people kept cooking their brakes, going ofcourse etc). The concrete is perfect, i couln't believe it seriously...last DE i did was in Sebring and that place is really beat up!! great->awesome but beat up. it really needs some tlc.
the drive there...damn 448miles one way. no comments on that. I left sfl at 11pm friday night to arrive at RRR at 6.20am on saturday just in time to catch some sleep before the 7.30am reg and tech
first day was awesome, i ran on street tires and fucked the front pair up...so, one of the e36 racecar guys came up to me and offered a set of nearly new shaved RA1's for $500...i said "bro i'm broke but thanks anyways i appreciate you trying to save my weekend" (or something like this) he replied, "give me whatever" ....and so i ended up with a set of 235/40 UTQG 100 AA A on e36 DSI rims for $200  and holy shit what a differece it made!! I'd never driven on competition tires before. I was keeping up with most racecars and passing nearly everyone else in my run group (mostly prepped cars, porches, boxters, 1 spec e30 (on stock engine ftl ; /) an an infinity G37 (seemed stock tho). There was a mid 90's VW VR6 hatchback that i even lapped on most sessions.
The second day was even better, the weather was perfect i thought i was still in FL with the exception of the high 72 low 48. Then an endless drive home...7hr at freezing temperatures in a car with no a/c or heater...no comment here.
Man was it an aswesome (&expensive) weekend!! this probably concludes my year. Maybe i'll consider OSW in december but i'm outa money. My idea was to do a bunch of track events before i graduated and ended up who knows where (although it seems like wpb!!) 5 track events, 5 weekends in a row! This was officially my 5th and 6th track day in 5 weeks. 6 and 7th in 2months 1 week
Oh and the e30...what a soldier, the only thing i've done to it since i started beating on it was an oil change and an AEM dry filter.
I only wish that some of the guys from here and some of my friends start going to events like these with me it'd be awesome! Maybe not so far, but all the auto-x's around, sebring homestead, daytona and soon moroso. Road Atlanta may cross my path in a couple of months!! Well peace, i gotta get serious again if i want to graduate!
