S14 Brake problem

Brake problem in my s14

The problem start with a very large pedal travel (the pedal had to go almost to the floor to stop), but as I drive the pedal goes up, as a matter of fact it seems that tries to stop the car.
So I figure maybe is air in the system so I start bleeding the circuit (FR), but all the sudden all the pressure was lost in the pedal, I try bleeding the master cylinder nothing, no pressure at all, there is no pressure I pump the pedal nothing any ideas? reservoir is full! NO ABS
Spelling???

The car was totally fine before? Then this happens how of no where while you were driving ? Was your brake fluid low? (e-brake light on?)

now that you say it has no pressure, If you try bleeding it dose it squirt out fluid while you crack the valve?

I say bad master cylinder.

yes it was working before i bleed it, how i could kill the mc? do i need to get a new one or it could be rebuild?, may i use one from an S13?
is the same for the manual and auto?
thanx

You can have it rebuilt or buy a rebuilt one. There are rubber Seals in the Master cylinder. Maybe there was a leak which caused a spongy pedal and bleeding it caused more pressure with ripped the seal more.

ut oh. What is the process that you are using to bleed the calipers? Its usually best to start at teh caliper farthest from the bmc.

valve closed, pump 4 times, keep pedal pressed down while someone else opens the bleeder valve. Let all the fluid or air escape then close the valve before you lift off the pedal...... IF you lift before you close the bleeder you will introduce air to the system.

Nissan 240sx Bleeding procedure is: RR > LR > RF > LF

But you knew that. Right?

You can tray to crack all 4 open and let it Gravity bleed just keep pouring fluid in the master till you see it coming clean out of the calipers. Lock them off and Bleed them individually as described above.

yep i got th fsm

the problem is no pressure at all.... no even in the master cylinder, well looks like i need to replace it, S13 will work? there is any difference between auto and manual?

when i bleeding i notice that there is no shims, how bad is that?

thank you guys

are you following the exact procedure that i described above? You can not bleed your brakes by your self with out speedbleeders. What shims are you talking about? The small metal plates that go on the outside of the pad?

yes my friend is helping me with the bleeding as u describe, and also yes the shims in the front pads the 3 (outer shim, inner shim and shim cover) are missing.

caliper is upside down??? wrong side?? you were just bleeding them or did you upgrade?.. so even if you sit in the car pumping the brakes it doesnt get any pressure at all in the pedal?

LEAKS....? Make sure you dont have any leaks on any of the hoses. Check fittings on Callipers and make sure no fluid is exposed. Are you filling the Brake Resevoir as you bleed? Are you doing this with the car on or off? How long are you holding the Bleeder Valve open for?

Blown master cylinder seals or you ripped a hose. Follow the brake lines and make sure there are no leaks. IF there are any leaks replace the line, if not replace the master and go from there. I am 90% sure it is the master cylinder though.

No upgrade yet!100% stock, no leaks, i did not remove the calipers so there is no chance of wrong position, (bleeder valve is up). at this point i just get the pressure from the springs but it does not built any hydraulic pressure no even at the mc, i pump and pedal goes all the way to the bottom.
Again, the brake system was fairly ok, i just bleet them bc the the problem that i explain at the begining, the first time that i bleed them it did was it normal (pump->build pressure->hold pedal->open valve(just enough to relese the pressure)->close valve->relese pedal, at that point i could run low in fluit so i add more and start over but all the sudden got no pressure and never came back.
i did the process with the car off, then i turn it on and the only difference is a softer pedal because the booster help.
now the fluit is full and when i open the valve at the mc it just leaks no pressure, same thing at the calipers.
mc what is the best way to go? new $200 ouch, rebuild autozone? upgrade? with what? rebuilt kit and do it myself?
What a nightmare!!!!! :(

Personal experience GET A NEW ONE. I work at Sears and about 1 out of 10 rebuilt masters will work when we order them for customers cars. The phrase You get what you pay for is true.
