ok so im trading my car to this guy. not going into detail. but its a sr20det with a aftermarket manifold and a 3trim turbo(thats what the guy said, idk). midmount setup. now heres the problem. the car had a real bad exhaust leak from the manifold somwhere. it doesnt boost at all. thats why im making this thread. now the turbo to manifold 4 bolt flange does not have the locking tabs. and all 4 bolts were on the manifold. i floorded it till bout 5k no boost at all. my question is the leak that bad where the turbo cant spool?? i had no locking plates and 3 bolts and blown gasket on my stock t25 and it still went into boost. im trying to find out what it is.could it be bad wastegate, siezed turbo, or just the 4 bolts are so loose it cant boost?? the mani is heat wraped, and u can see wher the 4 bolt flange is, the heat wrap is burnt alittle. let me know
 
I think the exhaust leak on the manifold could cause that but im not 100% sure that the car wouldnt boost at all. Does he have a wideband on it? How does the car idle? Any smoke from the exhuast?

yea the wideband cant even read it its so lean. i only looked at idle... and it idles good, it goes up and down though. didnt look at exhaust.. but it has 750cc injectors with rail and fpr on stock tune.
 
i had a real bad exhaust leak from from my manifold to turbo ( the 4 bolt flange ) , it was so bad that my turbo was 2 threads away from falling off. it still went into boost lol you may be looking at a bad wastegate. or a bad gauge. does it feel fast at all?
 
thats what i told the guy n it deff doesnt go into boost its a pretty big turbo u can hear it and feel it and that shit was not working

would having the turbo not boosting make it run real lean or real rich?? im debating to trade the guy tommorow, just dont want the motor to loose compression cuz it was running so lean for so long
 
dude, you are stupid.

You are trying to trade your car for a car with huge injectors with no tune, turbo that doesn't spool and its running lean without the turbo..

Those couple things right there, tell me that this is a horrible idea.

its a s14 se flawless paint and body motor on a good tune can be boss every aftermarket part on the car is top of the line coilovers twin turbo 300zx brakes all around rims new tires a lot more shit the kid doesnt know anything about cars he just wants a s13 coupe
 
top of the line parts but yet it runs lean, broke manifold, turbo doesnt spool has no tune, sounds like a POS to me and no that car isnt worth 6k maybe 3k as it sits, i seen s14s with SRs coils and other goodies going for 3500-4500 now a days.
 
sounds like a bad wastegate or disconnected from turbo - Had some kid come by and buy a bov from me once... mounted it and drove the piss outta the car wondering why he wasnt making boost... the arm wasnt connected to the flap :)

runs lean cuz the turd turbo isnt spooling, yea it doesn sound like a pos lol but with a fixed mani and a good tune the cars good. and mike the wastegate is connected it was the first thing i checked
 
My guess would be that on 0psi you would be running rich and not lean, since your getting fuel, but no extra air from the turbo. considering the more boost you run, the more fuel you need to compensate without leaning out. I could be wrong though so dont quote me on it

buy/borrow a compression tester, and check his compression that way if its fucked, you wont waste your time trying to figure out whats up with the car
 
The car does seem to be running reliably though even without the boost. And it doesn't smoke at all.

I upgraded from a T25 and stock injectors to a T28 and 555cc and it was running like dog piss so I could only imagine what a bigger turbo and bigger injectors are like on a stock tune.

Also what kind of car owner upgrades all this shit and doesnt spend the extra cash on a retune or tune. Sounds like a lazy owner or he went broke and couldnt finish it. Dont get someone else's mistakes. Who knows what else is wrong with that car.
 
The kid bought the car off a guy who ran out of money while building. Either way Ben didn't go through with it. And the kid traded the car for a Civic. lol
