Wierd noise

When i turn the car on and start driving it i hear a clicking noise on the driver side but once the car gets warmed up(about 5 min into the drive) it'll go away. It only happends when i accelerate my car...btw i have a 1996 240 sx, stock.
someone told me it could be the timing belt/chain...could that be right?
thanks! :bigthumbu

usually timing chain noise goes away in the first couple seconds of startup. I would tink more along the lines of your lifters. When sliding mine used to get starved of oil, after a run they'd be ticking like hell for a couple minutes then it would slowly go away.

well its only after literally maybe a min or 2. an example. i work on 77th ave, once i get to 87th ave it'll go away. and its only when pressing the gas, if im idle no noise will be made. i really hope its nothing serious.

Yea that still makes me think lifters. Example: Startup chain noise lasts typically 2-3 seconds, starting the car up alone makes the noise and then it just goes away suddenly. Or if the "L" bracket for the timing chain is bent or even broke(yes ive had that happen), it will sit on top the chain rattling like all hell. But neither situation sounds like your case.

The lifter tap also only happened to me when I revved it, it's nothing too serious and I found it to be more of an annoyance than anything. But to be on the safe side I would have someone check it out in person, if you have to take it to a shop.

yeah im gonna do that when i get paid cause knowing my luck to fix that prob. it'll be an arm and a leg. thing is i bought a turbo kit so im assuming i shouldnt put that in until i get this right? lol

btw thanks for the info.

its a very simple check with hydraulic lifters, pull the valve cover off, and move the lifters on the shaft they ride on. if they twist on the shaft (twist like if the engine is on) then you have a collapsed lifter. if you need more help just pm me, other wise good luck
