ae86 help

custom motor mounts but i think thats it. ive never seen the swap done but its a small motor so fitment isn't a issue. i was running 19 lbs and the motor never gave me any problems. The only problem is you have to use a mega squirt ecu which is a pain in the ass to tune.

i just read this

All non-US market 4A-GE's came with a MAP sensor, while all of the US-market Toyota 4A-GE's came with a MAF sensor. The only exception was the US-market 1990-91 Geo Prizm GSi, which was equipped with the MAP. This engine revision upped the power to 138 hp (103 kW) at 7200 rpm with 110 ft·lbf (149 N·m) at 4800 rpm of torque.

The 4A-GE was first introduced in the 1983 Sprinter Trueno AE86 and the Corolla Levin AE86 sports version. The AE86 marked the end of the 4A-GE as a rear wheel drive (RWD or FR) mounted engine, alongside the RWD AE86/AE85 coupes a front wheel drive (FWD or FF) corolla (the AE82) was produced and future Corollas/Sprinters were all based around the FF layout. The engine was retired from North American Corollas in 1991, although it continued to be available in the Geo Prizm GSi (sold through Chevrolet dealerships) from 1990 to 1992.

im tellin you 22r you can get a long block freshly rebuilt for about 800 bucks

but it makes very little power. 89hp??? even on boost it wouldnt make that much power at all. this car isnt going to be an only drift car. its gonna be raced ALOT and drifted when i want to. if i cant make any power there no use

I completely agree with what Redline03 said: worry about reliability.
Thats what im doing with my AE86 coupe...then the boost will come.

Ive had 5 AE86s and from experience Ill tell u that its a drivers car...its more about driver feedback than anything else.
Its very light (lighter than the S2k by a lil) and has an almost 50/50 weight distribution (something like 47/53)
The 1 and 2JZ swaps are usaully left to the drag guys...and requires a W or R series tranny and Supra, tacoma or a ford 9" rear end. Lots of fab work.

For a well balanced car I would go with any of Toyotas motors.
I grew up in the old school Toyota sh!t s thats what i gravitate to naturally...
Yes, the 22R is a good candidate, the 2/3TC, 2TG, 33rz, 18r, etc etc.
Most of these Toyota motors have interchangeable parts and swappable trannys (cams, pistons, heads and blocks)
And on top of that theyre mostly bullet-proof from factory.
After my 4th AE86 GTS im on my current 86, an SR5 with an old school 1.8 3TC swap, and mikuni side-drafts.
And although the Twin Cam GTS I had (w/LSD) was great...this is a completely different beast all together...:D

Ofc the SR5 is carbed and not fuel injected like the Twin Cam GTS so swapping in an old school carbed motor is much easier than swaping in an EFIed motor bc u wont have to swap fuel lines, wiring, and a mess of other sh!t.
BUT if u have a GTS, then a 4AGZE, 3SGTE, 20Valve Silver/Black top will be better...
The supercahrged 4AGZ and MR2 3SGT are more expensive to swap and the latter needs a Supra tranny behind it.
The 4AGZ can use the AE86 T50 tranny but an aftermarket clutch is recommended.
IMO, I would swap in the 20V Blacktop, and run open ITBs.
Awesome motor with great response.

So dude...its all up to you and what your goal is for the car (drifting, autoX etc)
u have MANY options BUT in the end its about your personal preferance.

Any questions please feel free to hit me up w/ a PM....

Peace.

so basically its either be fast with alot of money or have little money and be a "fun" car and just slide. ehhh idk guys i need power. i need something that runs faster or the same as 12.7 (1/4 mile time of my last car...a civic hatch)

PLEASE IGNORE ABOVE POST (duplicate)
WTF this site is acting weird....my post didnt show up @ 1st then it did...and i cant delete the 2nd one...w/e

where did you get those numbers from my 22rec had 149 stock. With boost at 19lbs i layed down 298hp 305ftlbs. i had a alot of money into the motor though. Forged piston, rods, crank, valves, cam gear, msd ignition. If you want a car that you can do mulitple motorsports with a 86 maynot be your best choice. Its a amazing drift and autoX car but for drag racing i would chose a different ap. You could make a veryfast hachi with a 1j but its gonna be heavy.

:( that was what i was afraid of....... idk im not ready go give up the going fast thing. i own an rx7 now.....fully built turbo motor. i want an 86 though

no i dont want rotary. i looked up the 20v blacktop 4age and how much power does that have and it it rwd??? they larent expensive and its ITB's and all and im sure i could get some power out of it

Yes, u can run a JDM 20 Valve Silvertop w/ '96-'99 Blacktop harness and ECU...w/ open throttle bodies and 3" velocity stacks.
Its around 160hp.
Great motor....
Its not RWD.
In japan its from the FWD trueno AKA AE101 Silvertop and AE111 balcktop.
All u need is a water line relocation...custom lines...
and bang the firewall or make a custom box for the dizzy.
Then take it to the shop for the harness.

IMHO i would run the Silvertop motor w/ blacktop ECU bc since the
Silvertop is equipped with a MAF like the 240SX u cant just remove the factory air box thats attached to the ITBs and run it like that.
SO use the bLACKTOP ECU (non MAF) and u can run'em open.

*Yo redline! Imagine the day when AE86s take over! :Dlmao...
Yeah i know itll never happen :(

ToyotaFTW! lol:bigthumbu

so if i put the motor in it wouldnt be rwd?? sorry for all the questions but i got alot of things going through my mind lol. if it would be rwd how would the motor be mounted in wouthout needing custom mounts so be fitted on the sides. thats all i need to know and the info on ur 86 (e'sfactoryae86) thanks :D

Yeah man that will be the day. Its going to be weird the day I get that classic car license plate and still drift the car lol. Well, I'm working on something now to help my 86 be more competitive ;).

The thing I loved about the 86 is its not about power, its about learning to drive. My 86 made me a better driver for sure and a big part of that was it being underpowered. I prefer to stay n/a with the 86 but you have to see what suits you better and go that route.

yes you can make it rwd it sits the same as any other motor

AWSOME. there ....im happy now. u guys made my day since ive been having a really bad one so far lol. well now all i gotta do is buy everything lol

Im getting my classic plate january 1st of 09 i can't wait. Toyota FTMFW. The only thing i hate about my car is that everyone thinks its a 86. lol I wanna get a bigass banner that says my cars not a 86 lol.

Damn I want that plate so bad lol. I'm just happy to see more Toyota people on here, I thought it was just like a handful of people. I need to come back already, I'm missing drifting too much.

its been weird not having any 86s out there. The first event i was in you were there and xorzero was there and i think latino hibino. Then nothing lol I hate being the only toyota out there but sooner or later atleast one of you will be back out there.
