The Homestead/FARA & The Drifitng Issue in South Florida

like everyone has said its all about money. many people cant keep things together long enough for it to have a lasting effect. Ter-Tech had the right idea with FDC. but execution was the factor that lead to the demise of the series. if something along those lines can be re-established and successfully maintained there is a big chance that a name can be made for florida. we have good consistent drivers that have plenty of potential and can thrive in this sport. but when estie cant keep his car together, the aero k boys that have ryan holding down the fort while the rest do their best to get ready and many other drivers that just can't afford to make it to events. there has to be more incentive for the current drivers to want to kill themselves for these events and for the smaller guys to want to get to that level. it may be a long shot in the dark, but pay outs and prizes can go a very long way in keeping the sport growing. the practices and seat time is great we all appreciate it and use it to the best of out ability but at the end of the day it is still money coming out our pockets. we need something coming back to us in order for this to work successfully. between you and drift sessions, you are the organizers that we have. i think once again give a series a chance. draw up a proposal, sit down and have a meeting with track and venue owners/managers and give them a presentation, one that benefits us the drivers and them the venue. FDC and Drift Sessions have easily proven that people will come to see exciting driving. sad enough to say, no one wants to watch practices, they are not entertaining. make events that are big and will bring the crowd, you know we all do our part to advertise. NASCAR, F1, WRC DTM, WTCC, Super GT, even larger Drifting Establishments all work because they make the events known. everywhere you turn theres a flyer, commercial, radio spot, web blog, website, even viral advertising. they MAKE you want to come to the events, they make it sound like the best thing to ever grace this earth. theres reason why some of us DVR/TiVo all these races, or travel to see them, they make you want to see it. i know we are not at the level of these racing establishments, but putting forth the effort has no limitations. thats my .02 cents. its a great sport, that you are right, many of us will turn ourselves inside out to participate in and maintain. but we need the support and exposure.

your absolutely wrong, ALL we have is places to practice. there are a good amount of drivers that are good to compete. Juan, estie, shant, raffi, ryan, fink, bert, jerry, jerry, sean forrester, sean mcqueen, anthony basileo, randy, red, kyle lauratiano, bill fisher, j-lowe, dan chilton, the other vert rx7, Pat and tom from hot karl, jackson thats 22 drivers right there that are all COMP ready and im sure theres some i missed. and then theres guys like carlos, miguel, chris kastner, and a whole mess of other ones that have little things to work out but with a small push will be ready to go. dont jump to conclusions, my friend. florida has A LOT of talent. you must have a huge hand to be able to count all of those. the talent is here we just need to showcase it and award them. if given the opportunity i would personally go and give a presentation with moe and tim to any track coordinator/owner, to show them that if they provide the track we will bring the spectators. and Spectators = Money/ Money = Happy Track Owners and Drivers, and that all equals a thriving sport

says the guy who drives the gokart. just sayin.

your absolutely wrong, ALL we have is places to practice. there are a good amount of drivers that are good to compete. Juan(always ready to run), estie(SR is always blown up), shant(doing a build), raffi(doing a build), ryan(just finished a build), fink(rarely ever competition ready because he is always trouble shooting problems), bert(always ready), jerry(boostlab)when he has extra money to run he does but he has a family to support, jerry(always down to compete), sean forrester(rarely makes trips to SFL, sean mcqueen(not to sure about what stops him), anthony basileo(not to sure), randy(doing a build), red(fine tuning a build), kyle lauratiano(just rebuilt his car for a second time), bill fisher(pretty sure he is saving for his build, j-lowe, dan chilton, the other vert rx7, Pat and tom from hot karl, jackson(drives when he has a good R154) thats 22 drivers right there that are all COMP ready
Thats barely any drivers when you actually look at it. Money is the issue. I agree about the practice shit too. But the issue is 95% money. And all the FC/Orlando guys are trying to make bigger moves as far as I can see.

money is the huge issue, but if given great enough incentive all those guys will bend over backwards to make it out.

Yeah but most of the good driver's down and struggling with money building their cars for bigger and better things. The problem we are having down here is that there are no events that will get you noticed to run a Pro series because nobody really cares about the East Coast. 95% of events take place on the West Coast so in order to make events to get noticed people are saving money to go to events in an attempt to get noticed. Cash prizes may work but it would have to be a big enough prize to cover driving to the event and covering tires and no venue is going to be able to come up with a lump sum to cover that.

EDIT: For instance Megan threw an event in Cali and the majority of the Pro Am guys went because first place won 5k. That is enough money to cover running a few events over there. No Florida venue can cover that price because we don't have enough driver's to register and pay a cover fee for that.

2nd EDIT: As much as I don't like to say it Moe you should have a non refundable cover fee to slide Homestead. I think at this point the track speaks for itself and maybe after a few events you could have a nice cash prize of like 1,000 dollars or so. That for sure will get people to attend that event and make for the best Demo ever.

yeah big events arent east coast, but a lot of pro am stuff works out here... NC, NJ, GA, Florida could be soon to follow suit... just saying, we have the venues just have to open their minds...

i completely agree. and with the mentality that the west coast is the only place where you can make it, we will never prosper here in our state, we need to stop worrying about that side of the country and worry about where we live. here, Florida. Make a name for ourselves. the west coast is not worried about what we are doing, so in turn we should not worry about them.

Thats all fine and dandy but at the end of the Pro Am series you still need to attend Irwindale to place.

Thats the wrong mentality we need to worry about what the West Coast is doing because obviously they are doing something right to have 95% FD series over there.

take into account weather and tracks . Florida maybe called the sunshine state but we do get a hell of alot of rain. As far as competitive tracks go all we really have is pbir, homestead, and osw.

More track support and payouts. More drivers will make the effort to drive if they are compensated someway, maybe even just trophies. In turn they will be able to buy more parts and improve. Practices are boring. Obviously everyone needs it but that's what countyline events are, just practice. Even that mini comp was exciting because it was something different.

One thing that hasn't been brought up is the question why it is that drifting is growing in other places but seems to be stale over here. I like what was said about building teams. There is strength in numbers.

What does weather stop. Honestly there has been like 4 events this year that have been rained out and they were skidpad events. Other than that the weather has been awesome this year. And weather isn't going to stop driver's from driving it will only stop the fans. We don't need the fans to get a nice cash prize. PBIR is a rare occasion, OSW never has events anymore, and Homestead is the focus here.

There are teams. Side-Run, Smokin' Ace's is just Juan as far as I know but a team. SMDG, Jackson Performance, All the WPB people stick together like a team. Everyone here is dancing around the fucking truth.

The good driver's want to drive events with exposure because they are building cars to hopefully get noticed. Florida doesn't have the exposure.

Plus the mentality down here is buy a piece of shit 240 weld the diff put coils, flat black that bitch and drive the piss out of the car. Media doesn't want to see a janky ass 240 thrown together out there. Media wants to see sick fitment nice paint and low. Thats what drifting was built on. People need to put some time into their cars and then maybe we can get noticed. I can count probably count on 1 hand the cars that look the part down here.
