i had to remove the needle from the tachometer to replace the illuminating back to the tach when i swithed to the HUD dash. now the needle is "lazy" and doesnt show the correct RPM's. any idea on how to fix it?

Im installing a HUD from an SOHC in my 91 240 I was wondering what exactly do i have to switch over to get it to work? I had heard that you have to remove the tachometer from the DOHC and put it in the HUD Gage cluster in order to get it to read rpms correctly. Is that true? Thank you.
