2012 Xtreme Drift Circuit Round 3 at CFRC [RESULTS]

haha no I'm just messing around. I didn't see any bad calls, but I didn't watch the competition either.

so.... me and nate get a OMT called.

he leads spins at first clip and i avoid him (though i was gettng a little understeer before that... he spun). i returned to start and lined up. i lead... safe but solid clean run. NATE MOVES ON.

apparently, when he spun, I was supposed to go around him and drive (not even drift, just cruise) through the course. because i didn't- they said "you abandoned the course so you get no score/advantage".

its a skid pad, not like i went reverse track, i just crossed through the chalk, if I had just turned left and made a uturn, I would have won.

even Nate didn't like the call, and I respect that he owned up, but he got into my top4 spot.

I didn't see this but I don't know Jay to complain about a bad call. So it must have been a B.S. call. Sorry to hear that BOX, but from all the little birdys I talk to. Doesn't sound good for the future of XDC. Just podium FD @ PBIR that'll learn'em

^^ I've read the rulebook and all that again and heres what I gather:

XDC RuleBook

7.6 Tandem Elimination (Sweet 16):
The tandem elimination will consist of two (2) runs per round, in head-to-head format, by the top sixteen (16) drivers determined by qualifying scores. The drivers will be seeded according to their qualifying scores and then matched up using a single elimination bracket design (see Appendix - Image 1). The higher qualifying driver will lead first in each round. In each round, each driver will lead for one (1) run and follow for one (1) in order to make up the total two (2) runs for each round.
During the tandem runs, the lead driver’s objective is to demonstrate their ability to drift the course without error while under the pressure of being chased by the other competitor. The chase car’s objective is to demonstrate their ability to drift the course while staying as close to the lead car without causing contact.

7.6.1 Passing:
Passing is not required to win a run, however, may be made if it is done to avoid/prevent a crash or the lead driver has gone drastically off line and the following driver can execute the pass in a safe and professional manner. If the chase car does perform a pass, it must be done so while in drift and in a manner that does not interfere with the lead car’s line or speed. If contact is made during a pass, the competitor that caused the contact may be penalized.

7.6.2 Vehicle to Vehicle Contact:
Vehicle to vehicle contact is an unfortunate outcome in the sport of drifting that however rare it may be, can and may happen. Each incident will be reviewed by the
judges to determine fault.

7.6.3 Pace Cone:
A pace cone may be placed in front of the grid depending on the course to help keep tandem match-ups closer together. In such cases where a pace cone is
- 28 -
deemed needed; its location and usage will be made known to competitors during the driver’s meetings.

7.6.4 Tire Changes, Repairs, Adjustments:
Drivers have the option to change tires between tandem runs provided they can do so in a timely manner, and do so without hindering the schedule of the competition. In the event that a car breaks down or has a mechanical failure, the driver will be allotted five (5) minutes to assess and correct the issue (certain venues may require and allow the need of additional time due to the nature of the event or venue, in such cases this additional time will be addressed during the driver’s meeting). If the competitor is unable to remedy the situation, they forfeit their run and the opposing driver advances with a win, unless the reason for the untimely return was due to an event not related to the drivers own doing (i.e. accident on track).

7.6.5 Judging Decisions:
Each round of the head-to-head match-ups will be judged based on the aforementioned criteria. Judges will observe both runs in each match-up and are permitted to talk to one another about the runs, but not permitted to show their decision until all three (3) judges have made their decisions. Once the judges have made their decisions, the match-up result is determined based on the following three (3) options available:
Option A: Competitor A wins
Option B: Competitor B wins
Option C: One More Time

1. There is no rule that says I must finish the course after the lead car spins in front of me. (think about it, would it even make sense if I had to go 4 wheels off to avoid him, though this time I didn't)
2. There was no mention in a meeting (as I said before).
3. Even considering the general idea/rules in tandem: You must follow/mimic the lead car's line. He did not complete the lap either, so why should I?

Reminds me of a US Drift event I did (2006) at Mid-Ohio... They had a rule that IF you spun, you come back on and can finish the run, and still get points. This stuuuuupid rule actually made me have 2 OMT battles that I won, and EVEN STRANGER they ONLY had us omt the single run, not the whole battle:

keep in mind, I had a snapped ebrake cable, and 230hp on some 15"steelies running coopers hahaha

Last year at a pro-am event my opponent shot a rod out of his engine during the first run, and they made me drive a lap around the track for a second run to count so I could win.

^^ Yes but thats dfferent. You did a bye-run. I understand you must attempt a run (I did this vs Brett at Road Atlanta this year as he couldn't make 2nd run). I didnt "sit at the start line", I followed and he spun. There was no difference in what we both completed, except I didn't spin.

Also, if the oppenent cant run at ALL, they only make you do 1 single run, not a pair. Mike Pollard did that at THIS very event when Mensah couldn't run (broken driveshaft).

It's not really that different. If they were like, "You gotta do a lap around the track to win", and then I drove up the run-up, made a u-turn off course and came back, they'd be like, "WTF?"

I mean, the whole thing seems retarded, but kinda makes sense for some reason. Just don't do it again! haha

I was like 0.002 seconds away from doing almost the exact same thing last year following Tyler Clayton at Charlotte. He was leading and abandoned the run and drove off course. For a moment I was like, "sick I won!" and almost cruised off course as well, but at the last second was like, "Oh shit, I'll get a 0 too if I do that!" and barely made the turn. I think I even dropped 2 tires. I don't know why I thought that, or if it even mattered.

Yea I won't do it again, but the premise of mimicing the lead cars line, I followed it and when he stops, why am I obligated to drive a uturn? If they did anything, it would have been MUCH more fair to have us OMT and tell me why/what I did wrong, than just say I lose when he spun. Say what you want, KDF =/= shit like that.

Jason you're not KDF'ing man. You gotta KDF. No matter what the judges are on that day. KDF.

Aono if you're kidding, or not Essa'. But don't go Gittin me all Powers upped because I'll take these Petty differences to a new Lowe and level the playng Field ....I just busted out of the psycho Ward and I'm on the Briggs of losing control. I'll use a Stone and give them a Goodin long beating, hitting them harder than Gallager on a watermelon. They will probably Dai if they don't get out of my Saito be safe. Know what I'm sayin Maeng? Don't be a curious George 'cause I'll ring your Bell when I pull your Lonberger through your Gushi until you Moen for mercy. If you were joking, then nevermind and I'll Cyr later.

^lol

I wasn't trying to be a dick either, just playin devil's advocate. If it was up to me, you would've won, and I would've just told you not to do that again. That seems to make the most sense.
