Michelle has driven manual a few times. then she went and bought a S13 less then 2 weeks ago and has never driven a RWD car or ever gotten sideways. But she is signed up for the Moroso event. I will be driving her car too but if the car has the pink rims on it its her driving. She is going to be very very very nervous but she still has the guts to do this practice event. she will understeer and she will spin out. its a part of learning. But i know she will get respect. she will get an lsd saturday and have a few days of lesson before it and hopefully she picks it up quickly.

oh and i allready have her clutchless up and down shifting and damn she does it smoothly i think its funny how many guys i know that still can't do it.

This is a good example of taking it to the track. Yeah, the first ever practice event will always be the event with the most nerves. The nerves should start to go away after the first few runs. Just get her on the "track" for a few sessions and she'll be ok. You can learn a lot from that track :bigthumbu . I'd like to hit that track up before its gone for good.

my tranny doesnt let me do that. Plus it adds unwanted wear i think. Ill be instructing no one will make fun of her. Most if not all will give her props.

nope. less wear but not if you are doing it wrong everytime. but if its not doing it smothly its being done wrong. ive driven lots and lots of vehicles and its worked on all of them that i know of. dump trucks to motorcycles all of them.

homeboy, give me a year and I will be a homeland resident *high5*

Once I am up there, I WILL be at every event and my car will be yours.

clutchless on a getrag (common BMW tranny) will not work. it is not possible to shif down on them without perfect release (clutch). I cant think of any reason why you would want to shift clutchless with a conventional tranny? dog gears or sequential yes, but normal tranny NO. Unless your slave, master or wire is broken just to get home.

ill be there at moroso to help if anything, give out pointers and such... and plus, my first events, i had the butterflies like a mofo... everybody gets nervous on their first event, but after the first runs, u should be str8...

just trying to teach her stuff to help her understand more about vehicles mechanics and behavior. i did not know that about Bmw trannys i used to drive an 87 325 alot back in the day but now i know and knowing is half the battle.

Michelle....if ur reading this......when u got out to Moroso for the practice event....just throw the wheel side-2-side and u will be drifting.....now the tricky part is grabbing the steering wheel before it spins u out! hehe :D

If you have her start drifting from the beginning, she will not understand the dynamics of the car. I would have her drive the corners as fast as she possibly can a few times, without spinning out, without TRYING to drift. Just keep the car wrapped around the turn, barely losing traction. Concentrating on one thing like weight shift, without all others that go into actually drifting, is helpful in knowing what the car naturally wants to do at that particular speed and point of the turn. Having her go a little faster each time, and almost losing control of the car, but regaining it back will teach her more than if you just tell her "okay, e-brake now" or "clutch kick now." Technique and all that comes easy afterwards. Feeling the car roll and weight shift and want to naturally break loose with speed will clear up a lot of confusion with coordinating an initiation and carrying it out, blah blah.

Works sucks, I'm bored. What's everyone doing?

totally agreed that is why i think autocross is the best thing for predrift experience. but we dont have the time for an autocross right now. so i'll just work on what i can right now.

Agreed. I still rev match while using the clutch anyway.

yea i havent even signed up for an event yet an im nervous ,but i should be going to county line,i would love to go to the moroso event, just dont have the funds...but im down to ride if peeps wanna meet up...

wow ur girl has done more in less than a month than i have in the almost 3 yrs ive ownd my car, im impressed by her dedication :bigthumbu But in my defense...I am the only person who's stupid enough to use a 25 yr old POS with no aftermarket support (ie no coilovers, no LSD, no JDM motor to drop in) for sliding...im not kidding out of the many Datsun Z owners not one of them drifts their cars. So u can understand why i haven't been to events or dont have a full on drift monster, i dream of the day i have a car that i can just go ick a LSD over weekend for...sigh* Didn't mean this as a rude remark like i said im impressed by what shes doing, just mad at my car  hopefully i can make it to the moroso event (no cash and no LSD...pffft):D

^ theres a dude that drifts his at OSW every once and a while, you don't need those things dude. I drove my supra at moroso last time. Ok my supra is 3000lbs automatic 110hp no steering angle solid axel spin machine. Your car doesnt matter it doesnt make youself better YOU make yourself better
