5 Lug Conversion

I Have A S13 And Want To Make It 5 Lug. I Was Told That I Can Just Take The Hole Knuckle From The J30 And It Bolt Right On And I Was Told That I Can Do That With The Q45 But I Was Looking At Them At The Junkyar And That Turned Aout To Be False. Is There Any Car That I Can Just Take The Hole Hole Knuckle Off And Put It On My Car? Just Unbolt The Lca, Shock Absorber, Rack And Pinion, And Caliper And Just Swap Em? Thanks

OH AND I HAVE HAD EBAY HEADERS ON MY KA FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW AND I NEED TO HEAT WRAP THEM BECAUSE THEM RELEASE TOO MUCH HEAT IN MY ENGINE BAY, CAUSEING MY ENGINE TO OVER HEAT. I JUST WANA MAKE SURE ITS SAFE TO GO AHEAD AND WRAP EM, CUZ I'VE HEARD THAT THEY'LL CRAK. I JUST WANTED TO WRAP THE PART THAT IS IN THE ENGINE BAY, I DONT CAR TOO MUCH ABOUT THE PART OF THE HEADER THAT SITS UNDER THE CAR. IS THE HEAT WRAP THAT THEY SELL AT ADVANCE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THIS? OR IS THERE MAYBE A SPRAY OR COATING THAT I CAN SPRAY ON THE HEADER THAT WOULD ACT AS A HEAT WRAP? THANK YOU

You should specify front/rear whatever. Hubs bolt to knuckles are in the rear and spindles up front. In the rear, you can remove the entire hub assembly from an s14/s15/z32 (non turbo)/j30/q45 and bolt it to your knuckle making your rear 5 lug.

Up front is a different story. There are a few conversion methods. The above mentioned method is one way. You'll also have to drill out your struts to fit the larger 14mm s14 lca bolts. If you use the smaller s13 bolts there will be movement in your suspension. Also, you don't need the entire lca. You can just swap balljoints. Its far easier to just get 5-lug conversion hubs up front.

??? ok i understand that knuckles are in the rear and spindles in the front. so the rear is easier cuz i can just swap the whole knuckle correct? just unbolt strut, axle, caliper, and uper controle arm/ camber thingy?

up front i gota get the hub and press it into the original spindle? i can do this with either a s14, j30, z32, q45 front hub?

it has to be the 5-lug s14 lca? i cant use the zenki base modle LCA's?

REAR: Why would you swap the knuckle at all? That's MORE work. Just swap the hubs. And not all knuckles will directly swap - just the hubs.

Up front you have options. IDK about pressing bearings and shit - i've never seen that done and i've never done it so i wont comment. The way I did it is get an s14 spindle (ANY s14 spindle), 5 lug s14 hub, and an s14 balljoint. I pressed the balljoint into the stock s13 lca's. The ball joint is the important part here. IF you swap lca's - it doesn't matter which s14 they came from. You'll also need the lower strut mount bolts and you'll have to drill out your strut mount holes for this to work PROPERLY.

OR you can save yourself time/headaches and possibly money by getting yourself some 5lug conversion hubs.

S14 or z32 n/a rear 5lug hubs bolt right up. You just need 5lug rotors.

Aftermarket front hubs are the easiest way to go on an s13. I had ichiba fronts and they worked perfect. And it took only 20-30 minutes to install.

And the overheating problem you are having doesn't seem like the header would be the reason. I never heard of that. Might be something else. Thermostat, radiator, water pump, headgasket, etc. But the heat wrap from advance is fine. As long as you don't leave any openings after you wrap it, it should be fine. You can also coat it as well if you want.

coat? where can i find it?

so for the rear i just get the hub from a non turbo z32 or w/e other rwd nissan/ infiniti from that decade? plus rotors. i can keep my original crapy calipers?

what about z31 hubs for the rear? can i put a s14 balljoint into a s13 spindle?

z31 hubs don't work afaik.

You can keep your calipers just get s14 rear rotors.

No you can't use an s14 balljoint in an s13 spindle. Idk why you asked that unless you're thinking you just want s14 lca's (which is good for offset) and if that's the case, just swap the s13 balljoints into the s14 lca's (assuming their good).

You can get all kinds of coatings for your manifold. A lot of people tend to go w/ swain tech for their coatings but I had my peakboost manifold coated by HPC using their "hipercoat extreme" coating. I have nothing but positive things to say about these guys and I avoided swaintech b/c i don't believe in internally coating manifolds on boosted cars - not w/ a $1300 turbo sitting inches away.

so s13 lca's with s14 balljoints and spindles up front? i understand how to do it i just need the hub and rotors for the rear. now just tell me the items that i need for the front. just list em cuz im confused as to wether its s13 or s14 LCA's or BJ's or w/e

Tonymac?

ok so for the front i get s14 spindle, s14 ball joint, j30 hubs, s14 rotors, and drill out holes correct?

just wondering, cant i just press a j30 hub into a s13 spindle? and thats it

sry to bring an old one up but i think this is insightful for some people.

the complete j30 rear knuckle does have an advantage. it's an upgrade.
it has a bigger rotor and 2 piston caliper, with a drum ebrake setup

and if your lookin to kill 3 birds with one stone, then this is a treat.

the complete j30 rear end bolts directly in, meaning if you were 4 lug, now your five lug, if you wanted better brakes, now you have better brakes, if you wanted an LSD, well... now you have an lsd. while your at it change your beat ass ball joints from 20 years ago. oh and MAKE SURE you take the bolt for the strut on the j30 knuckle.

no camber arms needed from j30 rear for this swap

your welcome
