Alternator (+) cable corroding/glowing/burning away..

Noticed the wire was a bit loose, went to tighten it and the post snapped halfway through the tightening--got a nut and went ahead and tightened it down to what was left of the post. Turned the car on and the thing was glowing....... it came to the point where the wire burned itself off of the washer..
I turned the car on again and it burns as I hold it against the post.

Alternator fuse is fine, and the ground is screwed into the alternator with a black screw. [bad screw for grounding?] or is the alternator just bad?

Also, could this be the cause of my stutter/hesitation/crappy-throttle-response/etc? [<--doubt]

something is shorting out somewhere....did you relocate youR battery to the back? if so.where did u ground the batt to?

edit: thats also your stuttering prob. right there

Looks like this now:

Ignore the missing nut on the long bolt [was going to take it out and replace but wanted a 2nd opinion instead]..

i just made 1 last night...
4ga wire /w ring terminals double taped with blk loom in between...
i even jmp an extra 1 to battery so it never heats up again

had the same problem. cut and attach clean wire AFTER u rebuild the alt. i had mines rebuilt and no more burn wire. also make sure it is thick enough. and the other guys are right, good battery ground. gl

Buying a new alternator tonight; I'm assuming I can't reuse the cable that is on there right now? (not even if I cut and clean the end of it?)

rebuild it man, cheaper(for me atleast). yes u can, cut it until u get a clean piece, and take the DIE-ELECTRIC grease that u use on sparkplug wires/plugs and put it on the end then connect it back to alt. oh, and i believe the wired fried because the voltage regulator in the alt broke, explaining the heat and burning. so yeah, cut wire, rebuild alt, and good to go.

replace alt and repair wire or run a new one. Should be ok.

^Did this, it is ok now--no burning nor glowing, used the same cable too [cut and cleaned].
