This creature pictured below is actually a North American Manta Ray. Not a Sting Ray. The manta ray pictured in the artical dose not have a spine or spike with serrated edges, the sting ray dose, it is the more common harmful ray. I dove a reef off eliot key, and also barracuda reef off fort lauderdale where I have swam with a Manata Ray. They are harmess, and can achive wing spands of 22ft in lenght. Manta ray has a harmless tail and rarly is at rest on the sea floor where humans could step on them. Although manta rays jump, I really wonder if that manta ray was the one who pwnd this dude. Super weird.
