battery relocation quetion

hey i have my battery in the trunk but its off to one side. i wanted to know if i could move it into the spare tire well.. and here's my question, will i drill into the gas if i do? i was looking underneath the car and the tank seems to be right there. how much clearance is there before i hit the tank? or sould i just leave it the way it is and say fuck it?
btw its a s13 coupe
 
Unless you put it on it's side I don't think it would fit in your spare area so you'd have to have a optima. Even then you'd still need a box to be legal so I dunno if you could put the fake floor back in. Probably better off leaving it in a box behind the rear seats like it is now.
 
Sry, that's what I ment by behind the rear seat (in the trunk). If I remember there's a little bit of a gap between the floor pan and the tank. If your careful and just drill until you just break through you should be alright.

I would stick it in one of the rear corners right behind the tail lights so you can keep the center area of your trunk open and you wouldn't have to worry about the tank while drilling there. You never know when you wanna throw something in there and end up with a battery sitting dead in the way. Otherwise you could probably drop the tank a little without taking it out by loosening the straps
 
I have mine in box in the rear left corner and have perfect use of my trunk. Unless you know you don't need access to the battery all the time I would suggest putting it in that spot seeing as how the fuel pump is on the other side. I think there's more inconvenience than advantages placing it where you are thinking.
