Brake fluid

im replacing calipers in my S14 so im gonna flush the system, the question is what brake fluid should i use?

Before jumping saying Motul 660 or castrol SRF read this(240s use DOT3)

http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_brakefluid_1a.shtml

"DOT ratings, if your car was designed for a particular type of fluid (especially prior to the development of DOT 4 fluids), you should make every attempt to stick with that fluid! For example, if your car was delivered with DOT 3 fluid, the internal components of the system (seals, brake hoses, and fittings for example) were specifically designed and tested for compatibility with DOT 3. Because DOT 4 fluids contain a different chemical composition, the system may not necessarily react in a positive fashion to the borate esters" floating around in the mix.

im thinking on use motul 5.1 or castrol GT LMA

idk maybe im wrong but if u ask me its just brake fluid its not that big of a deal the brand and shit as long as its dot 3 good to go :bigthumbu

Unless you were road racing I would just use some DOT3. DOT4 and DOT5.1 are also compatible but the viscosity might be a bit different possibly causing slightly accelerated seal wear.

I'm sure DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 would work fine though.

I've been using mogul rbf600 dot 4 for about 5 years with no problems, it works great, i even use it in my clutch. Also many break fluid bottles say interchangeable with dot3 or dot 4 so if manufactures say the interchange, it won't hurt anything.

btw the dot 4 from motul was designed for factory line cars theres and says for replacement of dot3 or 4.. chemically speaking there isn't that much of a difference between dot 3 and dot 4.

Also look at the boiling points at this page, forget about the dry boiling point, we live in florida and with the humidity here you will pretty much be looking at the fluid drawing a lot of moisture out over time, the wet boiling point is after the brake fluid has been exposed to oxygen and the two that you posted have very very low boiling points.

if you must stick to those choices don't use the castrol, its probably the crappiest of all of them, the only thing worse is the ap racing. Go with the motul.

^^^^^thanks interesting answer

i like the motul 5.1 over the 600/660 because its hygroscopyc caracteristics but im open to any sugestions....

The 5.1 is new information to me. I'll have to do some research on that.. I have always read that DOT5 is corrosive in the older 3/4 systems.

But I have always used the Dot4 Synthetic stuff at Autozone/Advance. Like 7 bucks for 32oz and it's enough to do a complete flush and everything. I think Castrol or Valvoline is the brand, I don't remember which.
This is also the cheapest alternative to mail-ordering anything. I run braided lines, Z32 calipers, and Z32 BMC on my KA-T and I've never had any issues with fluid boiling.
