ok the day before yesterday my comp was fine, worked perfect. before it shut down it automatically updated then turned off, when i go to turn it on in the moring i get a black screen of death. the drives are runing, the cooling fan turns on, the cpu fan turns on , but it does not boot. i tried taking the battery out to reset the cmos memory, i removed the ram, i dont think its the psu(power supply) im stumped and im preying something like the hdd didnt failed, any help or toubleshooting would be much appreciated
 
let me talk to a few nerds i kno. they helped me fix my lap top when it was acting gay. is urs a desk top?
 
no bios, ive been trying to get it to boot off the windows cd with no luck, funny thing is my old computer died the same way, it starts up to a black screen, the only difference is with this comp, on my monitor thers a little light that turns from orange to green which tells me that the monitor is getting a signal from the computer, it beeps twice and then does nothing but sit idle with black screen

yeah its a desktop, its an ibm thinkcentre with windows xp pro

check your sata cables if its sata. I had the same problem one of my sata cables went bad
 
no sata cables, its bugging me cause not only did it work the night before but my monitor is getting a signal!?!?!?
 
try changing the battery in the mother board if not your motor board is fucked cause it should boot to bios even without a working harddrive

just tell them ur one of bryans boys and that u drive a 240 also (trust me theyll go to ur house if u tell them lol). they might be able to fix it for u depending on what it is. just tell them u dont kno whats wrong with it and theyll find out
 
ok i just bought a new battery and it puts out 3.07v while the old put out 3.14v w/e still doesnt boot or do anything, im all out of ideas, i dont know how something could have burnt out overnight while the comp was off, if someone can help me for free plz pm me a number, thnks in advance
 
The only things your computer need to boot are RAM, a keyboard and video. Remove parts one at a time, like the harddrives, cd drives, mouse, any USB devices attached etc until you find one that solves the problem. Sounds like it could also be a bad video card, that can cause problems like that occasionally, are you using onboard video or a card?
 
You have a graphics card? mine did the same shit b/c my graphics card was too bad ass for my comp. It had worked for abot 2months after that, black screen. Removed the graphix card and everything was back to normal pre graphix card shitty resolution, but it works now atleast
 
ur video went out most likely. i could probably tell you if i see it.

You can rule it out pretty quick by testing different RAM, PSU and Video card.
 
its definitly not the video card, i removed it and plugged the monitor straight to the motherboard and nothing, ive tried removing the ram also with no luck
 
well if your motherboard has jumpers and you just pulled the vid card, you wouldn't get a signal from the onboard video.

Maybe you have a bad monitor or vga cable.
 
i have no idea what i did but something worked and the computer has finally booted
