can someone clarify this question about maxima brake upgrade

Everyone agrees that you use maxima calipers and pads with altima rotors, but I read this thread where it mentioned that 240/altima/maxima calipers are in fact the same, the only difference being the caliper mounting bracket. In other words, you could get just buy the maxima bracket and use the stock 240 caliper, saving $$ and trips to the jy.

Can anyone confirm this? My brakes are pretty bad and I need to change them soon so I might as well do this upgrade

its for a 93 w/o abs btw

I never heard anyone running maxima calipers.. M30 calipers w/ altima rotors though. but why not just get J30 which is a way better upgrade and just spend an extra 10$/rotor to redrill them to 4lug or do it yourself with a drill and your old rotor as a guide

funny I've never heard of the M30/altima combination when searching for the 180sx swap.

J30s are an option but the maxima/180sx is cheaper and easier. Would be even cheaper if I could confirm that all I needed was the brackets instead of the whole calipers!

Also I don't know if the j30s would affect brake bias more than the maxima's

how is it easier j30s are direct bolt on and use stock 240 lines and the ebrake even works. all you have to do is redrill the rotors if your 4 lug. ipaid $100 for my j30s with everything

Because if I can use maxima brackets with stock calipers then all I need to do would be to just switch them...no jy hunting or anything. I can get new maxima brackets online for cheap and I already have a set of 180sx pads I snatched off ebay a long time ago when I was considering this upgrade. So all I'd need is to buy the rotors and I'd be set.

Time is the name of the game...I got my diff welded by M4nfred like back in october and havent had the chance to put it on; my coilovers and some suspension bushings were in a box for over 2 months until I had time to install them over the winter break :ugh:. So if I can order new maxima brackets for cheap and altima rotors and have them shipped to my door instead of going to the jy, finding a j30 and then taking everything off, driving back home, redrilling, and installing...its a no brainer.

So does anyone know if the calipers are interchangeable or not:confused:

Its an upgrade because it makes your car jdm tyte and helps you drift better!

In all seriousness, its mainly to be able to run a bigger rotor

all that work for a bigger rotor and still going to stay at a 1 piston caliper y?
Q45 atleast your 2 piston.
or save up get 30mm z32 calipers then run 350z rotors.

I answered that in a post above, its mostly for time concerns and the fact that if the brackets swap, all i'd need is brackets and rotors, and altima rotors are already 4 lug.

also from what I've read its recommended to run a bigger BMC when doing the Q45s since sometimes it'll mess up the brake pedal travel.

Im just keeping it simple/convenient/easy. Otherwise I'd go for a z32 swap but w/e

no. it's fine with the stock one. you're going to have to buy new pads and rotors anyway, why not get the q45 calipers at the junk yard?

Better heat dissipation and brake torque.

OP:
Yes the difference between maxima/180sx brakes is 2mm in width. You can also use ABS brake calipers (or just the bracket) from an s13, they are the same thing.
