Few updated pictures.
First here is the proposed road course that was discussed at the meeting 2 months ago. I'm not aware of any changes but I haven’t really discussed the road course setup with Pete so it might change.
The green line is the proposed path of the road course. Pits are yellow and the entrance to and exit from are red arrows. What is not in the picture is there will be a back entrance to the north of the track (north is on the bottom, south is on top) where the pallet yard is (for those of you that have been there you know what I mean). The section that was prone to flooding during rain has been extended so the hairpin/horseshoe section is deeper (can be seen in the bottom let corner of the image). For those that were at the meeting the proposed entrance onto the 1/8 mile from the front stretch (by the office) is going to be rounded so it isn’t an abrupt 90. The stretch that runs behind the pond is actually a lot wider than I expected it to be (roughly 2 1/2 - 3 cars wide). The new back stretch is insanely fast. I could hit about 80ish in my car but I’m setup for drifting so those that have more grip through the apex should be able to hit well over 100 in top of 3rd/bottom 4th. Total length (from me driving it in my truck) is right around 1.5 miles. Should be a lot of fun and exactly what central Florida needs.
Moving on to drifting....
Just to put everything in perspective distance/size wise (this applies to the image above obviously), the 2 orange lines are 1/8 mile apart. Obviously the perspective of the photo is kind of construed but it gets the point across. The red arrows are the entrances onto the drift sections from pre-grid.
(A) Will be the section of the track that will be used when drifting runs along with drag races on Friday night. The track is going to try and do 2 events a month depending on the schedule. Don't take that as every other week or 2 weeks in a row, rest assured though everyone will know well in advance as to dates. The back skid pad section looks small in the pic but it is the same size as the horseshoe (minus the dirt). Plenty of room to play around, more surface area then the skid pad and back section of the road course we were initially on. We will stage with the drag racers (drifters will be in lane 1).
I can’t comment on costs for the road course but for Friday night drifting it is 35 to drive (per tech sheet) and 10 bucks to get in the door to spectate.
(B) Is the section of track that will be used for the bimonthly (every other) events. As of right now, the first one will be after the New Year. From pacing it out from top to bottom it's over 200 yards. The widest part of the back stretch (not taking the 'box' into consideration) is 55 yards at its widest point and 30ish at its narrowest. No word on cost but it will be right around what previous central Florida events cost.
Sorry for this crappy paint shopped pics, I’m not very artistic and it doesn’t help when I’m on a laptop with no mouse. When my roommate gets off work tomorrow I will get him to do something that is actually tolerable to the human eye. I just wanted to get pics up because tomorrow (it is Thurs now after all) is the drift event.
If I hear any additional scoop that needs to be passed before Friday night I’ll be sure to pass it on but for right now, everything seems solid for the drift event Friday.
