Coolant hoses + Clamps

So at the last event i cracked a coolant hose behind the block and almost owned myself hard.

I would like to prevent this in the future, what are my options as far as good quality hose?

I dont want to replace it all with discount auto hose, Would like some high quality stuff, silicone maybe? Where can i find some good quality stuff?

Also, how about clamps? Dont want to go cheap on any of this stuffs.

For the most part on factory installations the heater hoses become brittle after 12 years or so. Id think if we replaced each hose with new factory clamps it should be good for another few years.

Look around in real hardware stores for stainless steel marine hose clamps. They can be tightened with a socket with out spreading apart. You can put a good amount of pressure on those heater hose clamps with those which are available in a wide variety of sizes.

On the other hand, on my last engine I welded shut every extra coolant passage so I only had upper and lower radiator hoses to worry about (while the engine was out). I was thinking about retaining a\c and heat with the new engine but I think for simplicity, and peace of mind ill freeze in the winter nights. On this new engine im tossing around the idea of making aluminum radiator pipes and use strait silicone sections with t-bolts to secure them to the radiator and engine to hold the extra pressure from the radiator cap. Under pressure water boils higher then 212*F.

Thanks, welding those shut is an excellent idea, almost cost me my motor. Im going to go ahead and do that whenever I pull this motor, since this is pretty much a track only car.

yea uhh just make sure who ever dose it is good with a tig welder. There are a few coolant passages that I welded shut, they are galvanized and because of they're shape, easy to over heat. yada yada yada Im good so I dont have to worry but ive seen some welders here in broward, lol. On the ka the heater hose feed off the block is a fitting that is threaded in. I welded that shut then reinstalled it into the block. the rest of the nipples and coolant passages around the throttle body and crap were just prepped and welded shut.
