Driver
8.3.4 Front cross member and/or front or rear sub-frame
Front and rear sub-frames and cross members must be stock and
available on the exact model that is competing in Formula Drift. The
subframe must also be mounted in the exact stock location, without
being moved in any plane.
Front subframes may only be modified to directly allow for oilpan /
starter clearance and steering rack relocation.
The front subframe must
retain intact on at least one major member on one face that spans the
entire width of the subframe, thereby keeping the original dimensions of
the subframe intact. Any other modifications, cutting, welding,
strengthening, etc is not allowed.

told ya

sweet so you can cut it for oil pan clearance just must retain stock location and size perfect

ya if you have 2500 just mount your 3k swap sure. The rest of us will have to cut subframe buy gto pan and weld up some mounts. and save 2k

it's whats next man.
Turbo 4 cylinders arnt as reliable, gotta run the shit out of em to make power.
Theres no replacement for displacement.

hahahaha.

but foreal.

Thats not entirely true.

It just costs way to much money to make dependable power out of a straight 4 vs a v8.

I mean the japs have no problems doing it, and very few of them have gone to v8 applications, but its cheaper for them.

I think for a series that is loosing steam due to our countries financial status it will be a warm welcome for those teams who are sick of dropping big cash on motors that don't have a great shelf life.

truth
race gas for ubsurd amounts of boost
tunning time to get your high crompression, high boost pressure motor to run anywhere near being safe
retarded amounts of heat from some giant turbo trying to make boost
LAG!!
.....and thats all just to compete with a v8 with a cam.
And how many j doods are still on 4 cylinders.
Most of those boys are straight 6's.
I know there are a good amount of 4 cylinders still, but 8 > 6 > 4

Lag shouldn't be an issue at all. The powerband of a properly tuned low displacement 4cly should be just as large as that of a large displacement v8. Its the low end torque that's desirable when you're in a bind but if you're FD or D1 pro status, you shouldn't ever be dipping that low anyway. V8's are cool, id rather have one, but like rob said guys in d1 are proof its not the bee's knees of driftracing.

honestly I dont think jap guys use v8s moreso due to their car culture over there. They dont have the plethora and history of v8s that we have.

im not worried about low end, if you dont know how to clutch kick revs up/slip clutch you shouldnt be in FD.

its the 4th gear entries that just dont happen for me if its an on throttle turn. but again, im at the extreme low end of the 4cyl turbo spectrum.

i agree with Pat however that a modest V8 just is WAY more reliable than a ragged out 4cylinder. Money wise, I think its much more to rag out the 4 cyl too, and better have a damn good tuner or its just gonna nade up.

Im not talking t25's here haha.

Even though it would be way cheaper to modify the crossmember and use a GTO oil pan, I still really want the Sikky swap kit, but I still need to rebuild my LS1 since its completely apart right now. I just got a job delivering pizza's, so I'm gonna be working a lot until my swap is done lol

because of this rule, i still dont understand how tanner foust car was legal, it has a supra subframe
