Fidel Castro announces retirement

although I'm happy he handed power over officially, nothing will really change until the US takes the initiative on it. I've always believed that the embargo should be lifted. The USSR fell partly due to the government allowing for a little bit more economic freedom, and limited private enterprise. If we lift the embargo, and with Raul being more open to democracy then fidel, no doubt that things will change.
 
there is not such a thing as an embargo, the only ones suffering is the population of cuba. The members of the Asamblea nacional have everything an uper class american citizen has; from flat screens, cell phones, mercedes benz, laptops etc.. If you ever go to Cuba as a turist you will find that some of the best hotels in latin america are located there, but as resident of cuba you are prohibited to enter any of these hotels. The embargo is a lie. It was ment to weaken the regime but it has failed misserably. You cant compare the USSR with cuba, many of the countries that made up the USSR weren't happy with their pratriarch nation. Also the USSR had a population of over a billion, while cuba has a population of just 10 mill.
 
Unless you're not a US citizen or you go illegally, you're not taking a vacation there anytime soon!
 
this just in read up on diarios de las americas,the herald,talked to cubans,cubans IN CUBA and they all say the same theres nothing castro does thats not a strategy cuba goes past castro its a machine my family was improsoned in cuba for almost 12 years they dont see many changes anytime soon well see
