It all depends if you believe in predestination. I believe that everything happens for a reason, but I dont believe in predestination. I used to be completely athiest and believe that no single power existed, but in the past two years, (I took AP European History and AP British Literature which deals ALOT with religion) I became Agnostic. I believe that there is a God, but I dont believe in Adam and Eve and the Bible's explanation for the developement of humans. I am more scientific. But I do believe that we are all here for a reason.
I agree with green_machine. All these deaths that occur in our world today are for a reason. We are already greatly over populated....6 billion people in the world is ALOT. They presume that there will be over 10 billion people in the world by 2020-2025. Thats an unbelievable growth rate.
Everything has its contradictory force. In other words, everything ying has its yang. Good vs. Evil, Love vs. Hate, Life vs. Death. There has to be a balance is one of the points green_machine made. I think that Social Darwinism also is what causes this balance between life and death.
Dan, its so hard to give up habits because we become accustomed to them. They grow on us and become part of us, whether it be good or bad. Its hard to give up a part of yourself because a) your accustomed to that habit, b) because you dont entirely know what lies ahead once you give it up, and that causes fear. Most of the time, the unknown is feared and/or hated by us. Why? Maybe it is because we are uncomfortable with not knowing something? I dont know.
But in conclusion, we can never recieve a truthful answer on whether we truly have free will. Our personalities are determined by both genetics and experiences, and impacts our choices, but I dont think that we are entirely random. We are quite organized with thought, and all these thoughts and the collection of them serves a purpose.
I dont know, Im just rambling! Sorry.
