Friend having issue, any ideas?

here is what I know:
I was driving home yesterday on the freeway.. I was cruising and then I got on the gas to pass a car. When I did that its like I lost 40 % power. The car just kinda bogged, I cam to a stop light and the rpms were really low like it wanted to stall. The exhaust actually sounds muffled as well. So I went home got MAF cleaner and took it off and cleaned it… and changed my spark plugs. It didn’t fix the problem. I hear it could be injectors… MAF issues, or even a clogged Cat Converter? You have any ideas? Oh yea im changing the fuel filter when I go home to see if that does anything?

I gave him a few ideas but told him I'd post it to find more if any. Thanks.

yea i'd check fuel pressure too. its most likely not something thats gotten clogged, that takes a while to really affect performance, but then again i wouldnt rule out clogged cat. possibly a failing fuel pump or a single failed injector. i'd check the ohms on the injectors and the fuel pump or swap out with known good parts.

im having same problem on my stock motor, swapped the fuel pump no change, it seems to run better with the least amount of throttle input possible, the more i give it the more it bogs and feels like its running half the power, ima swap injectors and rail and see what happens, i know this thread is to help someone else but since im having the same problem i thought id share and maybe we can both get the help we need to get it fixed

^might be huge vacuum leak. go to your engine bay with engine running and listen around for a suction sound.

i have a vaccum gauge hooked up and it has never had a vacc issue i removed all the emissions and is running a perfect 21 all the time(at idle), i changed the fuel rail and injectors earlier today and drove around, seems to be much improved, the power doesnt feel like its hitting a wall anymore and it revs out much smoother, the idle is still rough and wont stay put tho, i think the fpr might be to blame but could of been a combination of fpr/injectors ill keep things updated if anything changes

having same issue. i swapped to a walbro.. and dropped some fuel system cleaner.. also idk if this happens to you gas as well. but when u tap and i really mean tap the gas. rpms go down b4 going up?

lmfao yes YES!!!! if i tap the gas the rpms go down before they go up, if i tap it just right i can keep it at a certain rpm lol how does one fix this!!!!

hmm. is there a fast idle screw you can adjust or a screw to calibrate the tps? sorry i cant be of much help i've never owned a ka haha.

could be a problem with your ECU. when you tap the gas the car dumps a bunch of fuel in to get the revs going and then sees how much air is going in to smooth it out. So it's natural that it goes down a tiny bit or hesitates a bit, especially on turbo cars. However, it bogging for more than a little bit could be throttlebody / MAF related.

dumping a bunch of fuel. meaning could be a mest up injector.. or fuel pressure. bt it would also happen on normal acceleration. i dont beleive is dat.

throttle body related how? i bypassed the tangle of heater hoses that went thru the throttle body to heat it but havent had any sticking issues and dont see the point of warming the intake charge

Um... Stop changing parts if you don't know whats the problem! If vacuum good move to fuel pressure, then regulator. If one injector is not firing, you'll know. But it is good idea to figure if you just have a problem with one cylinder. Check timing while your at it. If you have fuel and air, move on to ignition system: simple test pull spark plug wires (from the spark plugs) and hold them to something metal that you don't mind getting a little burned and away from important electrical components and see if there sparking (should be a nice blue/most of the time, oh yeah don't shock yourself). If you got spark then check compression. If all checks out then theres a sensor problem (problem meaning anything from a bad connection to a bad sensor). A good way to test the TPS is using an analog ohm meter, or listen to FSM. It sounds like a sensor problem or maybe fuel.
