Fuck Me!! SAFC II

Im not ignoring that a standalone is better and allows for better fine tunning. but an afc is sufficient. Specially for Kenrik who has a pretty much stock sr...

Grrr it's not stock... but yeah I'm not going for 500whp..

^^Like what megasquirt? lmao.. half the guys i know with megasquirts have trouble getting there cars to run period. plz, i know people with ka's + afc + enthalpy or jwt tuned ecu's making in the 5's hp range. They dont have a problem with afr.

Um, no. Enthalpy tunes and JWT tunes are tuned ecus - the only thing the safc does in those circumstances is make small adjustments to account for differences in engines. You can get an adjustable FPR and do the same thing. Actually, Enthalpy recommends using just a fpr and suggests staying away from SAFCs. When it comes to using an SAFC as the primary tuning device (which is what we were discussing here) - ESPECIALLY when being compared with other tuning devices - they are complete crap. There are far better solutions available (from standalones to real piggybacks) that not only get the job done, they get it done well.

As for your Megasquirt comment. A megasquirt is a standalone ecu. For some reason everybody feels compelled to jump on this programmable EMS bandwagon these days but the fact is that (contrary to what you might read) tuning and installing an aftermarket ems is no cakewalk. I have a plug in EMS and I still have issues! Take 99% of those friends you know and hand them a top of the line Motec EMS and they'll have the same problems.

I hear the bikirom ECU is quite nice though... you just plug your laptop into the ECUs USB port and tune..

Yes. The new software is really nice looking too. If the boards were available when I needed one, I would have gotten it. I may just order one and install for shits and giggles though.

People get it done with an afc. Again, i know there are better systems to tune with. but, an afc is not "crap" i know guys with haltech's that have problems tunning. The tuner also plays a role u know? but anyway's, my point is that you can make really good power with an afc. Thats all...

ya know, I thought the same thing a year ago so i bought an safc to control the larger injectors in my car.

now after I have had some experiance with other systems and see how much an safc adjusts total timing, i still say it sucks. When using the safc as a primary tuning tool as I was on my stock ecu, the afr would wonder enough to keep me on the conservative side opposed to trying to make power.

I would not use a safc to adjust a tuned ecu.

Installation of a standalone system is pretty universal for the required sensors and wire map. Ignition pickup meathods can be different although you can find some of the same pickups used on all kinds of engines. +1 with dori dori, I am constantly trying different things to get ms2 installed on my car right now, even if you gave me a motec ecu, i would still have to figure out the voltage range that the ecu operates in so it reads TDC from the hall sensor. Implement that circuit and eventually get an rpm signal.
