Fuse Box under dash replacement

how hard is it to replace the fusebox that's under the dash? And will a fuse box from a single cam 240 (1990) work? Reason i want/need to replace it is because my taillight fuse slot is fcuked up fuse wont go in all the way and every time i change the fuse it blows within a matter of minutes.
 
i dont think the fuse keeps blowing is because of that! check the circuit for a short!
 
well im not exactly sure on how to fix a short. but like i said, there's like metal shit jammed into the fuse slot and the fuse wont go all the way in. but it does work for a little while before it blows again.
 
im 200% sure it's the right fuse. it's the slot that the fuse goes into that's all screwed up. Which is why i ask if i can just replace the whole box w/ a perfect one and how it's done. I have a wrecked single cam 240 that i'm parting out and it has a good fuse box.
 
If you have the right fuse and keeps blowing THEN STOP lol you will end up burning up a bunch of wires. You have to trace the wires from the back of that fuse slot and find the short most likely a cut wire touching the metal chassis.
 
i just recently had that problem and a whole lot of wires got fried (45 wires). i had a short in the side marker. and the same thing happened to my fuse box, the fuse melted in there and i got messed up, so i ran an external fuse. but check your electrical harness for and cut, touching, or burnt wires and then trace it back. it will save you so much of a headache. and do your dash lights also got out when the fuse blows?
 
i had kinda the same problem. but your problem is that there are exposed wires somewhere along the way to your tail lights. i would take that rear interior that covers your tail lights and start from there looking to see if any wires are cut open. you never know but i bet thats what it is and that its probably there.
 
i say just goto u pull it a swap he fuse box! then in the process of doing that check harness fo open wires!!
 
If there's any extra fuse spaces [there normally are], rewire it to that.
If not, get an external fuse for it.

But, there's definitely a short somewhere. Trace the wire from the back of the box to where it ends on both sides. I'd bet my ass it's touching somewhere.
 
i have seen this a hundred times the slot where you put the blade type fuses get so fucked up, the fuse never fits tight. you cant move the wires to another slot that is not being used and you should be ok. put make sure its the slot being lose, not a hot wire grounding out or one of your bulbs fucked up, thats happened to me before got two brand new bulbs and they keep popping the fuse.
 
ok well how do you relocate the fuse to another slot? and i discovered something yesterday. whenever i turn the light switch on, i hear one of the relays in the fuse box under the hood popping...
 
anyone have a diagram or pdf or something of sort that'll show me how to pull the fuse box and rewire a fuse? ive gone through about 30 fuses in a week and its too risky for me to drive w/o taillights right now.
