Good way to clean an engine bay?

Sadly, my engine bay hasn't been clean since '98... and it's fuckin' showing it.
There's dust everywhere. I tried to clean it with some water once, but... that shit ain't comin' off.

It's not a big deal, obviously. But, it'd be nice for it to sparkle a bit.

Any suggestions on some solutions?

I've heard Mineral spirits and such.

What about some applicants? Just some paper towels, I guess?

I'll update you guys on the FIVE :)eek:) page 300zx thread as shit goes along. If I don't get the 300zx, I'm buying a 302, putting it in my car, swapping for a manual, throwing on some nice suspension and I'm sliding my Mustang. I don't care if I'm the only one with some flow masters... :bigthumbu
 
engine degreaser from advance auto parts....spray it on ...let it site then hose down!

bah... i have plenty a time washed the shit out of an entire engine bay... ou can let the car sit for a bit before starting it, but i normaly wash and drive. i have done this with all kinds of cars too, merc,bmw,porsch, any of those high end peices of shit.
 
simple green works great for mild stuff. If you got some heavy caked on shit get the purple stuff, but beware this will a white residue on most of your alumn parts, if its really caked on spray it down, let it sit, spray it some more, let it sit. get a brush and scrub away, spray again and let sit then hose it down. repeat if need be. Go with simple green to start off with though.

Almost everything under that hood is weather sealed, just be weary of the distributor
 
once you're done with the degreaser/pressure (purple power ftmw > F 88)cleaning spray armorall dash cleaner all over the engine compartment and turn on your engine. let it get to operating temperature and it'll start evaporation. once its all evap it'll look like it just came out of the factory....smell and everything!
 
Zep Purple from Home Depot is the funk! Simple Green is good too! Cover you filter and Dizzy. USe a hose if that doesn't get everything off a pressure cleaner helps. I'd mix the Purple with some water to dilute it a bit tho as stated earlier it eats Aluminum!

I don't have a distributor... just a coil :bigthumbu

But I definitely have to try this stuff out. Thanks.
 
what ever u use make sure it doesnt eat paint, when i pulled my motor i used water and a brillow pad(keep in mind i painted my bay), and is it me or the the 240 bay collect alot of dirt

Now I see this... how do you get rid of the white residue?
