ok i have a feeling what the problem might be... but i just wanna be sure on the problem so i dont go out and but the wrong part so u guyz can help me out... ok i have an 89 s13 coupe did the 5 spd swap 5 months ago and i been hearing this noise like a belt is slippin but when i pressed the clutch... thinkin it was so stupid belt but then today im drivin 2 my house i hear a pop and my clutch goes to the floor made it home and i turn off then i pump the clutch while its off and i turn the car bak on and when i press the clutch i hear some metal or something grinding i think its the throw out bearing that went bad cuz it goes into gear but it just sounds nasty... but its only when i press the clutch in idle is fine only when i press in the clutch so like i said i think is the throw out bearing so you guys let me know if im correct or it can be something else... thanx

UPDATE: took out the tranny throwout bearing waz fuk'd up completely and also the pilot bushing torn in pieces went and got em and installed and actually drives better then before.. thanx for everyones input..

the clutch was new when i installed it only has 5k miles i forgot but when i take off the tranny do i have to take off the starter?

did u greased both bearing, pilot and release bearing and also the shaft were the bearing rides on?
if not then i would recomend it

It's most likely your throw out bearing. Don't drive your car until you can get it replaced. My throw out bearing messed up and seized and I couldn't drive the car at all... If it were your pilot bearing, shifting into gear would take a lot of effort, and would constantly make noise. With or without depressing the clutch.

Many bearings come pre-greased. But it never hurts to add a little more :D

Make sure the bearings are properly greased though, if not, it would be an epic fail on your part to have to take the transmission off again... :p
