ok heres the thing.

my car needs a lot of TLC>
now im saving money .
my plan was to save for an sr20det.
now my car is actin da hell out of me. i dont think is gona last me long....(the way i drive)

so heres the thing
should i rebuild my engine. and fix any flaws and then move to the rest of the car and leave the sr for last.
should i get an s14 ka. with lower miles and swap it and then move to the rest of the car and just stay with that for now.
or should i wait amd get the sr and the hope nothing else goes bad on the car.

????? i think i wana get the s14 ka. and stay lik that for now. what u oldtimers recomend."?

First figure out what's wrong with your current engine/overall condition, do a compression check/leakdown etc.. it might not need to be rebuilt but just have some stuff replaced (IDK what problems you're having)

If you do swap I don't think there is a need to go with a S14 KA, any KA24de with low miles will do.

What I don't understand is why pay $300-1000 to rebuild/swap the engine if you're planing on putting in a SR anyway? I think you should save for the SR and keep and eye on your oil etc.. You're KA should keep running they can really take a beating!

Getting a KA would be a full blown waste of money if you want to get an SR in the long run. I'm sure that for much less money you could make your current motor last till you have enough for the SR.

However, ultimately, you are the only one who knows what's more important for your car. If all of your car's problems are central to the motor you currently have, run some engine diagnostics to figure out exactly what the problems are. If it'll end up being cheaper and more cost efficient to fix the most important problems, then do that and try to pinch pennies until you can afford a decent SR to put in. But remember, you get what you pay for.

There are three options when it comes to cars and performance parts, and you can only have two of them. Cheap, Reliable, and Powerful. Pick the two that are the most important to you.

I have the same dilemma. The RX7 has a bunch of things that need to get fixed. For those of you who know me, you know I have an extensive list of major/minor repairs and an extensive list of modifications I want to make. All of which have an order I'm going to buy them in. I did, however, have to sit down and weigh out the prices (purchase and install (if applicable)), on certain ones in order to come up with how I should go about getting them. Just sit down with a piece of paper and write down all of your options for fixing your current problem. Write down all required part prices for each option and go with what seems like the best course of action.

Now for my opinion. If your problems are centrally located around the current motor... Run some diagnostics, try and fix them while saving for the SR unless it'll cost less to get a decent KA. That seems like the easiest and cheapest way to go in the long run.

well thanks guys . i already did an engine diagnostic. and i did a tune up.

and the compression came out 108 on 1,3,4 and 102 on 2.
so practically my engine is fried. i guess?
the engine smokes a lil., white. or grey.
also it has sum vaccum probs that effects the iddle speed.
also it dosnt respond good to the throttle. i dunno if that is normal. me being used to the 200sx witht the v6. i would tough it and it would move, this 240. you opent the throttle and it responds a few seconds later very slowly.
the engine is a 92 and it has 148xxx miles on it.

i guess ill have to wait for the sr some how huh?./......

but the thing with the sr is that you either need a front clip or a swap with a shikt load of parts.

so that ill be like over 3 gis.$$$$

I thought SR swaps were basically a bolt on?

How much money do you have now? Jose (DhSil80) is selling SRs for $1900. That price is beyond low.

Frotn Clip is 2500-3000 that i have seen, of corse some **** had will type that there cheaper w/e thats nto the point, IMO in order to do a full sr swap getting at least new motor mounts, will be the best way since the motor will be out, also you dont know the condition of the clutch is, radiator, water pump....alot of compaies say they start it up and runs fine before shipping it out i think thats b/s but oh well.
