I need an opinion

So i decided to scrap my S13 project when i saw how rusted my shell was. Now i dont knwo much about cars but some people were telling me just to get another shell. Ive seen some people with almost the same amount of rust as me just go through it. I know i would have to get a welder and strengthen up the chassis. I have a CA18DET and a FMIC already. I dont want to have to turn around and sell those even though im getting the miata now. I love s13's haha. Now my jackstand did punch a hole in the weakest part of my frame. Plus the battery tray has a huge hole in it from the rust. I know i would have to replace the radiator core support among some other things. ahh just take a look and tell me if it would be better to get a new shell or not. (note: also when i was taking this thing apart... my headlights were just held on by one bolt!!!! and i noticed a lot of things were missing bolts and my bumper was not even there just a bumper cover.... so i would have to go about finding the proper size of bolt and replacing where need be.)

on to the pictures!

Yeah....uuhh i think is time to get another shell.

the last thing you want is the chasis to have unimanigable frame flex. you could be really resourceful and make it work but the time spent probably is not worth it. a new shell is most likely the easiest and most simple solution.

ahhh that sucks... you guys are right lol.. i knew it deep down but didnt wanna admit it. I spent 2200 on that.. i shoulda done a lot more research earlier in the year instead of taking something that looked good on the outside and drove good

Dont worry man, it happens. I spend $800 on my SOHC Hatch and i had the same problem. Well that and after I gave it a complete tune up it just started to run like crap. :( Get another shell. Sunroofs are common places for rust on 240's. Check engine bay too. You see alot of oil, that means a leak. If bay is clean (ie. oil free) then check for rust. You've allready seen on yours where you can find the rust. Concider yours a learning experiance. In regards to the whole bolt thing, Hit me up. I got tons of bolts from my SOHC. If your gonna get rid of your Hatch, Salvage all Nuts and Bolts you can... People cut corners, and try to do as little work as possible. You'll find tons of crap missing bolts or wires just laying around. People do that. Salvage bolts, or hit me up. I got two containers full of extra's and I still gotta salvage them from my 93 now. So if theres anything i can help you with just let me know man.

wow man thanks for the help i really appreciate it . Im not sure if im gonna continue the 240 project right away but hey i still got the motor and the FMIC sitting here. As you know i also got the miata rolling... that i make payments on lol. Anyways thanks for the offering of help and words of encouragement RB26DETT.... i really needed it cause honest i felt like **** when i realized i was gonna have to say goodbye to the beloved rust bomb

i say dump the s13 and put the CA in teh miata! lol...or just get another shell if u like S13s, it looks like for all that money ull spend fixing that shell u shud just buy another one, a cleaner one

you know if i had the smarts and the resources i would dump the CA in the miata... that would be quite badass.... it still is a lightweight engine
