Idle issue.

Tonight I went drifting. My normal idle is at 900 to 950. I spun out and the car died. I tried turning it over, but it wouldn't start for like 5 tries. Once it started it died again. And again it took about five tries to start. Now my idle is at 600 and it dies every time I get out of gear and let the car coast...

Why did my idle change 300 rpm? I have no idea what this could be? Did I break something????

What can I say Noah. I am a problem whore too. If there's something that can go wrong with my car... Either it has gone wrong, or it will the next time I try to start it.

No actually it sounds more like an inline 6 with a bunch of problems.. I don't have apex seals flying out my hood...

u have a vacuum leak some where check all hoses and couplers on your car

yea it most likely is. my car did the same. i had a vacume leak. in the morning when i would get ready to go to school i would start the car and the car would shut right off. i had to keep my foot on the gas untill it warmed up a bit then the car would barely stay on. it would idle real rough. i looked under the hood and i hear a hisssing sound and soon enough i found a hose that was cracked. after i replaced it the car idles fine. the hose that cracked on my car was against the fire wall. check those hoses. one of them might be it.

check IC pipes to be blown apart at the couplers, but still sitting togehter, so there is still airflow just not sealed. could be it, happened to me numerous times.

Ok, I have no idea what FTW means sooo please explain. I do have flared ends and T-bolt clamps if that is what you are talking about.

I checked all the IC piping and they were all intact, I re-tightened all of the T-clamps.

There is a hissing sound coming from the engine bay, but I cannot narrow it down to any one hose.. It sounds like it's coming from the PCV valve. the grommet on that was cracked a while ago but I replaced it. The PCV valve doesn't sit flush against the valve cover though.

I didn't think any vacuum lines went into the firewall?

Also one of the couplers on the hot side of the IC is dry rotted and looks like a stone hit and left a whole. I dumped some water on it to check for bubbles and that didn't do anything.

I reset the Idle back to 900 because I needed to drive the car...

Has any one used Water Wetter(the coolant stuff) I tried it today and I am still running 84 celcius (183.2 degrees farenheit)

your not going to see bubbles on the intercooler coupler unless the engine is loaded and is making boost. If you had a boost leak tester connected on the intercooler pipes then you would be able to pressurize the air system and check for boost leaks with soapy water if you wish.

y0, if you think a intercooler couple is torn replace it, if it is dry rotted replace it.

The pcv should be on the intake tube after mafs.

Ok. I'll replace the coupler. i don't know where to buy new ones though? I can never find any 2 or 3 ply couplers at autozone or pep boys.

Uhmm It's a hose that goes into the valve cover? and the other end connects to the intake manifold. It has a little two sided sensor/valvish thing...

this is what it looks like

Your positive crank case ventalation system should not see positive atmospheric pressure. I hope that sensor valve thingy that you describe is a one way check valve so that air can escape from the crank case, and not let boost in.

look for silicone on the internet. you can try this site. http://www.racepartsolutions.com

or web\phone order from enjuku, or go get some from them if its not too far. i assume they stock this kind of stuff. easiest just to web order.

no, I really have no idea if it's supposed to see atmospheric pressure. that is just the way JDM had it assembled... I'll check up on that.

The only problem is that it's a 2.5" to 3" coupler. I guess I'll give some peeps a call tomorro.

FTW= FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!

that hissing sound is the colprate to your car running like shit- buy some engine starting fluid that comes in a aresol can from discount-autozone, pepboys start your car and spray the starting fluid on the vacuum lines couplers any place vaccum or boost would be present(lines, intercooler piping, intake manifold gasket every where) if you hear a change in engine idle it revs up or dies down thats where the leak is! replace what is leaking and there you go!! and here in south florida pepboys carries couplers now! and they are tough enough to hold boost too!

Engine starting fluid? is that like some really viscuos spray or something? The problem is is that I have no idea which lines are vacuum, which are not. Yay! I like pep boys. There is a really cute girl that works at the one here... ha ha ha she changes my tires for me :bigthumbu

starting fluid it comes in the same type of can brake cleaner comes in w/ the little red stick taped to the side ask someone that works there they should know. and just spray it everywhere if u dont know where to check but spary it in short concrated blast. like spray an area up close, stop and listen for engine idle change. if no change spray a diffrent area and repeat till you find the problem. be careful though that stuff is very flammable and any spark arc jump will ignite it and your car will burn to the ground!!! be careful!!!

Definition: For The Win.

In common english it would mean: 'This is what i would suggest', or 'is what i use/do'.
