some 16yr old kid said this about his rhd 180sx
"i bid on the car, and the people bought it and put the car through a 200 point check up, then i paid them, and they put it on a boat and it got shipped,waited 2 weeks, then it went through customs for the u.s and i went signed a bunch of papers at the port, showed i.d and took the car back to my place"

I don't believe that car qualifies under DOT standards, I know a guy whos job was to legalize gray market cars for the US... were talking Ferraris, Mercedes, Porsches.. and I remember him talking about shit like welding side impact beams in and changing out glass headlamps and shit to get through DOT... As a matter of fact recently ive heard of Homeland security confiscating skylines thats were "improperly" imported for 2nd and 3rd mainland owners...

like you said the car must have DOT aproved , lights, windows, mirrors, and bla bla bla... he could have done it if we actually imported as "show car" , " Race Car" only. for that he should have had tonnnnnnnnnnsssssss of paperwork to do and the car can never be driven on street.

third you dont have the car, you have no idea the troubles you have to go threw to import a car, i dont know if you are aware but u dont just sign paper and wamoo your driving your new 180sx. you have to get the car DOP approved, and that has to do with changing the windsheild, changing the glass headlights, and lights them self. and you cant just import a car for the fun of it, it must have a reason for being imported, AKA show car or race car and that takes some money, oh yeah and btw if you really do have "this" car your talking about with this "s14" redtop motor in it, be prepared to have homeland security confiscating your car, sometime soon.

actually it was imported as a rolling chassis and the motor as a crate engine
and from the company that i bought it with they did all of that which was included in the price
and what the fuck are you gonna do with homeland security
