J&D cage gose to

really? i think you'd be surprised how hard it is to get sponsors. feel EXTREMELY lucky (as I do) if you have any at all. Especially with no 'history' of what you have accomplished before.

its not like companies drool over drivers, they have 100s to choose from.

Thats the truth its nearly impossibly to get sponsors even with a great looking car. O well i think this is my painters fault for not having it done in time owell back to square 1 for the 4th time. Iv had three people say they will sponsor a cage for me and a maybe from javier so its not easy getting sponsors.

Good news paint is going to be finished next week looking baller.
Maybe il just start dragracing since i gots no cage FTL

On that note a big congrats to my boy Will ftw. And thanks Javier for the thought. Il give you a call.

its not about how good the person can drive for that i sponsor harri from TER-TECH. i need somebody that gose to car shows and local car mettings.and drive his car every where.im doing this to get coustomer and make my little shop grow.

ive never seen bill miss an event
ive only seen will at like two or three

but its up to you

It's all about how you market yourself and how well your relationship is with the prospective sponsor. How well did each driver propose their partnership proposal?

I think that Will is very good choice for business, since he doesnt just do Drifting he also does drag race events, SCCA events, road racing events with several different clubs, weekend meets for domestic cars and for ving vang vongs also. So the word will get out to more people than from most other drivers. Of course I would love to see every single FDC driver get fully sponsored, but economy is not helping anyone of us and Javier has to make his decision what he thinks is best for business, and I'm certain that Javier wont rape Bill if he wants him to do his cage as well. Javier is not building my cage for free either it is only partial sponsorship (Javier is a one man business not a million dollar corporation keep that in mind), but I have no problem paying for quality work and I'm extremely thankfull in any help that he can give me.

And the most important point I'm trying to make is that some off you are jumping on a guy who goes out of his way and is willing to sponsor one of us here in SFLDrifters!!! And you give him hell for it??? Do you seriously think that next time he wants to help someone out he will come back to this forum?????????? Think before you speak!! Do not attack potential current/future sponsors, if you ever want to be sponsored by anyone.

Im not suprised by Javier's decision, it was a very wise 1 if i was in his shoes i would prolly do the same thing. Heres what everyone doesnt know Will is very diverse with his car it goes to muscle car meets, drag races, drift events, and the car is sexy. Everyone knows 95% of the drift community has no money so what return on the sponsorship will he realy get, maybe a few jobs? Now on the other hand muscle car guys, drag racers, and grip racers are generally more funded then us brokeass drifters. I still give him credit for offering his time to one of us.

Thats why I am getting out of this shit!!!! Its all about who you know, how much people kiss ass/swing from nuts and money (thats what drifting is becoming), come into a drift forum offering a sponsorship, one of the top drivers in FL needs it to compete in a semi-pro drift series, which it can lead to more, yet it goes to a guy who is going to represent the company at the drag meets. Nice!! Next time go to a car show forum or a drag race forum to offer a sponsorship. Congrats to Will on his new sponsorship. Bill, just remember man; when one door closes another one opens... Best of luck man.....

Bottom line is that there's no money in drifting. The only place I can remember anyone ever asked me "who built your cage" was at NASA nationals 2 years ago. Drifters are broke, poor, just-scraping-by people who either build their own stuff, or are good at talking and they talk their way into driving a car for a local shop, etc.....

Apparently you don't realize that Will drifts also????

Is Bill the better driver? YES. Does that matter? NO.

Will is learning, and very dedicated. Probably has better personal funding. Bills car is gonna look real nice, but in the long run it's just another Nissan. How many 240SX owners in Florida can afford a $2,000 rollcage?

Now how many Cobra, Corvette, Viper, Camaro Firebird, & GTO owners can drop $2,000 on a cage?

And if you say he should give it to the 240SX guy BECAUSE he cant afford it, then you clearly don't understand marketing.

I personally like Bill, he is a really nice guy. Being a nice guy in business is a quick way to go OUT of business. Javier made the best business decision.

The car will most likely be seen more and it's an AMERICAN car in AMERICA, which means he's marketing to the people with money. If you for one second doubt me, go to Tower Shoppes on a Friday night and see how many domestics you can find with $50,000 in them. Then see how many Japanese cars you can find with $50,000 in them.

I think thats false. You have to work your way up just like every other motorsport. Earn your dues and hard work does pay off. It takes years to make contacts and learn the industry. Everytime I contact another new company, I learn how to pitch it better and better.

I used to get, no answers at all.
Then started getting...uhhh no we aren't interested.
Then I got, sounds good but not right now.
Then: Well we'd like to but times are tight.
Then: Keep in touch, we should be able to soon.
Now: I'll call you back in 2 weeks and get an answer, but I think we can work something out with you.

Obviously it doesn't work out still but the responses are at least in the right direction. I had a written proposal for my 'career' months before I had the car built (3years+) and revised it man times now. I've known some contacts for 2 years+ who I keep friendly with and guess what; Nexen is a great sponsor for me now, that shit was 1.5 years from initial contact. I'm not saying you'll get rich, but you can earn a living if you play your cards right. Shit isn't easy, but you've got to believe you can go somewhere or you never will.

I wasn't talking about sponsorships, I was saying the people in the drifting community dont have money. Javier isn't going to get any business from drifters. Drifters all would rather read online and teach themselves to weld and then build it themself from fencepost with a Harbor Freight welder and royally fuck up their car than to lay down the cash and get something done right the first time.
