KA-T Reliability

I've been thinking about going boost on my new car (S13) and i'm stuck between the typical sr20 and boosting the KADE. has anyone had any reliability issues with a KA-T and whats the price tag i'm looking at if i want to go boost and make like 250-275 at the wheels

Go SR! KA-T I havent heard much on reliability... But then again there are some HIGH HP KA-T's just takes the right tunning and parts.. but i would reccomend an SR... super reliable stock and nice amount of power

240sicknessX's is pretty reliable almost 20k miles on it drifting and dragging almost all the time and basically stock block. TUNING is everything. don't go cheap on parts.

Yeah Rick said the setup cost him something like $2200, but he is a weldeding master so I would tack on a few hundreed more to that for fabrication of pipes etc.. if you are not capable of doing it.

Yeah don't do something stupid buy a HKS "style" BOV.. drop the $200 and get the real thing.

Which makes more sence? paying a extra $100 on a quality part OR having to find a new engine because "like me" you were a retard and Blew up the old one. lol

This is true ^^

but get an sr20. Too many mistakes can happen when turbocharging and naturally asperated engine. Safc + 550s and a t04e (15psi). Be done with it. Then down the road a few months invest in an ecu, a tuned ecu makes so much more power and drivability is so nice. Keep your sr20 and think about how you are drifting and not trying to listen to the engine for detonation everytime your on the track; questioning the tune.

plus, my car falls flat on its face after 5300 rpm. sr revvvvvs for dayzZzZzZ w\ a flat torque band!

i'm sorry, you're completely wrong ($200 for a bov is stupid). hks "style" is the same crap. Adjustable diaphram bovs are the most simple things. I would put my volvo bov against an hks one any day and i'm sure the xs ones are just as good. I wouldn't use a bov as an example tho. Your motor didn't blow because you had a knockoff bov.

my kat is faster than an sr powered s13 that i drove with alot done to it. I spanked a wrx while on 4psi. It is awsome for drifting too. and with 4psi you can do it with a stock fuel system. low boost gives you a little extra power you need without blowing your motor. just dont turn the boost up (which is hard not to do.)

*If you have the money do an sr, if you have the time an patience do kaT.

yes and no, as long as the bov dosent leak. On a mafs metered engine management system a leaky bov sucks. splurge for the more expensive one and dont think about it or have to trouble shoot why the pos dosent run right. Not that a bov will blow up an engine.

your 2600lb s13 w\ 200whp better be faster then a 3200lb 190awhp wrx.

if you have the money do an sr, if you actually know what you are doing and arnt afraid of blowing up an engine do a ka-t.

s14 sr20. + fmic.

* this thread is a oxymoron, it will blow up eventually.

wait wait, ka-t reliabilty; i think that means rebuild it before it blows up.

lol at ka-t and realiability in the same sentence lol. get an SR they are the hotness and its not fun everytime haveing to wonder if your car is going to start everyday lol. SR FTW!

SRs can blow to... you have to remember even if it's low miles it still is a 10-15 year old engine!!

Rebuilt tuned KA-T > SR for reliability
