KA24de turbo experience

i have a ka24de that will soon be seeing boost, im planing to go with a garret gt30r.

i plan on getting head studs new gasket exaust cam work and computer work,
just keeping it stock internals for trial and error perposus for not.

my question to anyone that can awnser is, will this turbo be to much for the work i plan and stock internals?
aswell as if it works will it work good bad whatever, basically what kind of conditions will i get with this turbo?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME???

GT30 is bad ass but you can save a lot of money going w/ a t3/t4 setup while getting similar results.

a gt30 will probably work just fine. it's not really the size of the turbo that will determine the reliability, but how much boost and how much abuse the car gets.

u need to be more specific when you say computer work. are u talkin JWT ECU? or are you talkin' standalone?

yea as far as computer work this is not going to be as advanced as stand alone. a piggy back would be a good start for now. i was looking at the JWT but all i can fing was rev limit illiminators. Any recomendations on chips or coustomizing my ECU.

yo Tonymac, quick question in your opition should i go with a GT30R before or after toughing the internals, because right now i want to see what my stock ka24de can really put out. Untill i tought the internal i want to stay around in the 300hp area. would the T3/T4 setup be better for the engine on stock internals.
or what is the bassic difference in between these two turbo setups?

JWT also has a proggie for turbocharged KA24DE applications. You would be wise to look up the specs on their website or do a search on KA-T.org

IMHO I wouldn't spend money buying one turbo, only to have to sell it later, usually at a loss, and buy another one.

like i said before, it's not the turbo that determines whether or not it will take a toll on your motor, it's the amount of boost and the abuse that you give it.

what's a "better setup" all depends on what your ultimate goal is.

everybody wants to go ka-t with 1000 dollars and make 300hp and then they complain why they blow up ,, if you really like the ka spend the money ,do a nice turbo kit and the most important thing computer, get a good one and specially if you are running a stock motor..

Any turbo will blow up a stock engine if it is not tuned correctly. The GT30 will flow a couple more lbs\min then lets say a t3\t04e turbo and if you get the ball bearing option response will be amazing. With my garrett t3\t04e 60 trim .63 a\r turbine housing I have power around 3700rpm (journal bearing). It works great, but a GT ball bearing turbo charger would be better. I dont suggest you trying to make 300whp and try to drift your ka, once you learn how to drive you break pistons. If you just want to punch it once in a while around town and at the 1\4 mile then get a tuned ecu and or a standalone ecu with a professional tuner and see how far the stock bottom end takes you. I dont suggest stock engines for drifting over 260whp, the smallest detonation cracks these ring lands.

Note: I have broken alot of stock pistons while still using a felpro (stock) head gasket and new head bolts from nissan. Arp or and a metal head gasket are not necessary. In my experience I break the pistons first because I know how to install a head gasket correctly and it holds up.

Well there are like 89million different t3/t4 options out there - but a standard, appropriately sized t3/t4 will yield similar output to the GT30r but with slower spool and less transient response. Both are wholly capable of blowing your engine. Between the two, it comes down to how much money you plan on spending and how important spool is to you. Keep in mind that if you're running something like a log style manifold, putting a GT30r on there is like painting a turd gold haha.

To sort out the bugs and get yourself situated on what seems like your first turbo'd project, i would suggest getting quality, budget parts - like the jgs kit here.
