So you want to be a racer?
This weekend (Oct 19th-21st) Moroso Motorsports Park is the place to be if you ever wanted to live your racer fantasy. Starting this Friday night Moroso Motorsports Park will be holding 7 separate events for you to test your skills on one of our 5 tracks.
The Weekend Kicks off Friday evening when the gates open at 6 PM for the “BFGoodrich Midnight Madness†on the world famous Moroso Motorsports Park ¼-Mile NHRA drag strip. For just $20 you can test your skills against the clock in your very own street car. The excellent staff of Moroso Motorsports Park will be on hand to give you pointers and advice on how to get the most from your car.
Saturday morning at 8 AM Moroso Motorsports Park opens up for 3 events that allow you to drive your very own car and see how you stack up against others in similar vehicles.
The Morning starts up with the Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) Solo II. Gates open at 8 AM with the first car starting off the line at 10 AM.
Solo II events, also known as Autocross, are driving skill contests that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a tight and twisty course set on the Moroso Motorsports Park Road course partly designated by traffic cones in a low hazard configuration which allows drivers to safely race against the clock. There are classes for almost any type of vehicle.
Moroso Motorsports Park has hosted Autocross events before but this will be the first time that it will be held on our famous 2.25 Mile road course.
Later in the day the SCCA gets dirty with round #8 of the Florida RallyCross Championship. The action starts at 4 PM, with registration starting at 3 PM, and runs into the cool South Florida night.
RallyCross is a timed event that involves solo driving on grass or dirt and has been likened to an "autocross on the dirt." Just like autocross, the emphasis is on driver skill and handling rather than absolute speed. RallyCross is the simplest, cheapest and safest way to experience the thrill of Rally Racing and is perfect starting point for any Rallying career.
The cost to run in either of these SCCA events is $40 for SCCA members and $50 for Non-Members.
The action returns to the Drag Strip at 4:30 PM as Moroso Motorsports Park hosts another Test & Tune Night along with a Gambler’s Race. The Gambler’s Race gives anyone a chance to put his or her money where their “accelerator foot isâ€. Just go to the Drag Tower and buy your ticket to take part ($20 Pro Class, $30 Super Pro). then race for a piece of the Pot. The more who buy in, the bigger the Pot.
Sunday is not a day of rest for the staff at Moroso Motorsports Park as the action switches to 2 wheels in the morning. The final race of the 2007 Florida Motocross Championship takes place on the Moroso MX Track. This final round of the Florida Motocross Championship is also a double points race so expect the dirt to be flying as we crown champions in 22 Classes.
More Champions will be crowned as Moroso Motorsports Park hosts the final race of the 2007 Jon Smith Sub’s Karting Series. Racing champions of the future take to our .9-mile Moroso Karting Track. Boys and girls as young as 5 years of age and up will stream around the Moroso Kart track as they vie to be crowned Champion in 15 different classes. Of special interest to those into speed will be the highly competitive 125 cc. Shifter Kart class. Shifter Karts have a power to weight ration greater than a Formula 1 racecar and routinely hit speeds of over 100 MPH!
The gates open for both of these events at 8 AM.
Our final event of the weekend is probably the most exciting for any would-be racer. Braman Motorcars is presenting the Performance Driving Experience (PDX) with the SCCA.
What is a PDX? It is your opportunity to drive your car at Moroso Motorsports Park. Drive the track with instruction from championship-winning racers that know the fast way around the challenging and twisting 2.25-miles of asphalt. This level 1 PDX event is a noncompetitive instructional event permitting passing in designated areas, and the ability to improve your car control skills and test the limits of your car; off course excursions are not permitted so be prepared to be in control while going fast and having fun.
