Need consistant drift tire.

I run Sunny's on my rear right now and they arnt competative. The compound is very hard and once you go beyond its tread level it has no grip at all.

So I'm looking for a tire that has a good amount of grip and holds its grip consistancy even when the tire is nearly bald. I run the Hankook Ventus Evo12 in front and was thinking of running that on the rear.

Any feedback on any tires THAT DN'T BREAK THE BANK and the Hankook Ventus evo 12 as a rear tire is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Nexens are really affordable and tons of people use them. V12s are great. Most falkens like 512s? I think. Pt722 and azenis.

I second Nexen's. I've driven on them on multiple occasions and they always felt great. But I think the prices went up recently.

Yea I used to run Nexan for the first 3.5 years I drifted. They won't give me the grip I want. I've read some reviews and heard from a few people and I'm gonna go with the Evo 12s. I normally spin tires through 1st and 2nd gear to the entry but these will allow me to hook so I can keep up with the v8s. Thanks everyone :bigthumbu

By far the best tires I have ever had are maxxis , and they make a tire specific for drifters called maxxis v1 drift ,,, only available to people in drifting ,,, if you cant find them contact harri at tertech 5613121871 and he can get u some

I've run both the ventus v12 evo and the achilles ATR sport on the rear.

Id say over all the hankook has more grip, but similar grip was attainable by running a lower tire pressure in the achilles.

The hankooks wear very smoothly, but since they have such a low tread wear they maybe don't last me as long as the achilles, but the achilles need to be run reverse tread pattern or else they can chunk pretty badly. Sometimes they still do chunk, depending on the tire pressure.

Id honestly say to bite the bullet, buy a couple new pairs and test them out. That way you see what you like and what you dont.

I ran some dunlops on the rear once and actually really liked them, but I cant remember what type of tire they were off the top of my head. (they were back ups my sponsor happened to have in stock and gave to me and not what I normally order through him. Ill try to remember what they were and post later)

You say nexens didn't have the grip you wanted so you went to sunnys?! Fo real? Do you ever adjust tire pressure? Maybe you're running way too high of a tire pressure.

I have nexen n5000 on the rear of my car. Felt amazing and they have lasted FOREVER. I did like 6 runs at countyline. Drove 2 hours home. And have been daily driving it with some shenanigans for about a month and they're still good. I got Em used too lol. I've been running 50lbs of pressure and they still felt really grippy compared to what I had before.

I just got some hankook v12 evo's in really good condition so I guess we'll compare.

I really want to give those Achilles a try

No what happend is bills. I loved when I ran Nexan. My at home bills went up and so did nexans so in order to still practice and have fun I went to the cheapest tire I could find(which was a huge mistake). I wasn't really trying to be competative back then just have fun, but now I really want to get into the competative level of drifting where consistancy of tire is def important. I was gonna get Hankook Rs3 for the front and the Evo12 for the rear. I just want to be as consistant as possible and have a tire that has great grip isn't too expensive and wears great. Thanks for all the input guys :bigthumbu

Rs3 is a super awesome tire but doesn't last at all perfect for the front. and the v12 seems to last really long for how well they grip

but you want a tire that will be the same grip throughout the entire tread life?
You want Unicorn tire, cuz that shit doesn't reallly exist.

Tires start off slippery, (outer rubber)- we do burnouts to get rid of that shit and also to heat up the tire so the pressure comes up (unless your running nitrogen in your tires). Then they are good until the tread is about gone, they start slipping as you are getting into secondary rubber (what you aren't "supposed" to drive on), then the belts soon after.

Also, if you burn up a half set at an event, take them off, and next event use them again.... they will be heat cycled and have much less grip as they hardend up. There will probably be a blue/purplish tint around the edge of the tire too.

As far as tire you want, as Pat mentioned, don't always blame your tires, maybe try suspension settings. Toe in the rear, soften the rear, lower the pressures, just to name a few things.

The big names are big because of the tire, Falken, Nitto, Maxxis, Dunlop, Hankook... but they are $$$. Nexen n3000 aren't bad at all, but I don't know where you can get 6000/9000s around here unfortunately, thats where they get really good.

lmao unicorn tires lol. Yea I mess with tire pressure all the time. I just know for a fact that the ties I run now are crap, but it was all i could afford. An yea I've researching suspension arm and coilover settings for competative drift set-ups. So I'll def be jumping on that early next year after the holidays and KOC rd.3 have emtied my wallet lol.
