Hey guys well i have an SR20det Black top i just changed my turbo for a new turbo (Ebay), at first it was perfect, and now after like 5 days its starting puff some smoke when i let off the throttle, its for sure oil cause i can smell it. Also i took the intake (arm from turbo to MAF) and there is oil all over the intake housing of the turbo and coming from the intake, like if its coming from the T by the valve cover.

So i decided to run a catch can in between the T on the valve cover and the intake hose, and it still puffs some smoke out of the exhaust when i let off after a hard pull....

Can someone please give me some direction as to where to go why would this turbo be bad. I bought it from someone on this site but lets not even get started there, any help would be great THANKS.

Problem is you used diesel oil in a motor not designed for it. You probably damaged the oil seals in the turbo giving you the smoke.

You are kidding right.

Most all diesels are turboed.

Diesel oil is actually "better" than most normal oils. It has more minerals and stuff.

I've also ran rotella in everyone of my race car motors. My 400whp stock bottom end sr had rotella ran through it. After 2 full seasons we popped the bearings out for a rebuild and they looked brand new.

eBay turbos are really questionable I had one that lasted for ever then I had two that blew on the dyno so almost zero miles. So they are really hit and miss

Wait, how do I tell if a turbo is made for diesel oil or regular oil? I need to know this!
